Hi everyone, I’m sure if you are reading this post then you have seen the recent and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the past few days. A young woman, Sarah Everard, was walking home last week in South London. On her journey, things took a tragic turn as Metropolitan Police announced they were investigating her disappearance. She called her boyfriend, she wore bright clothing, walked on well-lit streets, and yet still she is missing. Recent reports confirm that her body has now been found. Sarah is not an anomaly; 97% of women in the UK have been sexually harassed, and not enough gets said or done about it.
Men. It is quite easy for us to take for granted such a simple activity, one that most of us don’t give second thought to. But for women, it’s a different story; the fear, anxiety, and lack of general safety are all feelings that no one should have when walking home, yet there is still many a reason for women to feel this way. We live in a time where women are not only sexually harassed, but are the ones blamed for this by “walking alone” or “wearing revealing clothes”. This has to change.
The streets should be always be safe for women regardless of what they wear, what time it is, or who they are with. The only thing that stops sexual harassment and violence against women is the men that are part of it. We need to stop this. Even if you are not the one perpetrating it, we all have a responsibility to call out this shocking behaviour.

There is no excuse now - we all have to be better, and it starts with you.
