Glasgow University Judo Club

Glasgow University Judo Club We are one of Scotland's oldest judo clubs. We teach judo, an Olympic sport focusing on technique, strength, and discipline. We are also a very sociable club.

Whether you're a beginner or experienced, join us for fitness, fun, and competing locally and internationally. Welcome to the University of Glasgow Judo Club! Sponsored by The Old Schoolhouse

We teach Judo as an Olympic sport – where the aim is to unbalance your opponent and take them to the ground with speed, force and control. We also incorporate some groundwork techniques such as arm locks, chokes and hold-downs. Judo is great for building strength, stamina and self-confidence. So if you’re tired of the gym and want to try something different, or want to make new friends, Judo is the sport for you! Our Club

Over the past few years, we have grown into a vast and dynamic club – the largest adult Judo club in Scotland. So we have a great mix of players and abilities from all over the world. All of our coaches are experienced black belts, with decades of training and coaching knowledge between them! We welcome players of various ages, genders, abilities, ethnicities and orientations, and we have a particularly strong female membership. We go to our sponsored pub – The Old Schoolhouse - after training on Wednesday evenings for a drink and some free food. We also run various social events and dinners throughout the year. Training

Our training times are:

Beginners Wednesday 6:15-7:15pm
Experienced Wednesday 7:30-9pm
Thursday (strength and conditioning) 8:30-10pm – New this year, this is for players who want to improve their fitness and get that competitive edge. Saturday 10.30am – 12.30pm
We train in Studio 2 of the Stevenson Building. Members must have a peak gym membership to access training. When first coming to training, wear comfortable gym clothes, remove all piercings and jewellery, and be advised there are to be no shoes worn on the mat at any time. You must book a space, booking closes 24 hours before the session starts. Book sessions at: https://glasgow.clubmanagementportal.com/join/sign-up.html
