2026/27 Bylaws for West District Hockey Competitions

Club Presidents recently received an email update from the District President, this was sent to the given President email address on the Contact Form

Clubs are reminded of the request for a response regarding proposed Bylaw amendments by Friday 14th August

We also seek further feedback on the West District Website - and we welcome feedback from all regarding this.

Congratulations to the Scottish Mens team for such a great performance in the EuroHockey Championship Qualifier 1 Men in Rome. A 6-1 win against Turkiye follwed by a 4-2 win over Croatia qualified them from the tournament but to then take on Italy in Rome and beat them 3-1 in the Final yesterday, that is just tremendous. A superb achievemnt by all the players, coaching and admin staff. Well done from West District, London awaits.

Good luck to the Scottish mens team competing in the EuroHockey Championship Qualifier 1 in Rome which runs from today, 9th to 12th July. Again we have an amazing group of players from West District or playing for West clubs in the squad. West District wish them along with the rest of the squad and coaching team our best wishes in their quest to qualify for another prestigious event.

So after competing in the 2026 Nations Cup in Cape Town the Scottish Mens National team finished a very creditable sixth with losses to Malaysia 2-5, New Zealand 0-1,and Japan 0-1, before beating Korea 4-2 and Ireland after a 4-4 draw 8-7 in a penalty shootout, before losing 2-4 to Malaysia in the 5th v 6th play off. A seriously good performance against some very high quality teams. But do you have any idea how many squad members started their hockey in the West District or have played for West District sides? Amazingly out of 20 players 10 of them fall into that category. Tommy Austin, Jed Campbell, Ali Douglas, Jamie Golden, Andrew Mcallister, Andrew McConnell, Iain McFadden, David Nairn, Alasdair Richmond and Struan Walker all have West connections. Another example of West coaching and development along with their amazing commitment to youth development bringing through the highest quality players who take everything on, dare to dream and frequently succeed. Well done guys you are an absolute credit to West District.

So, as another season ends and the prizes are handed out it's not just in Scotland that Scot's hit the headlines. A very special prize was handed out to a very special player, a West district star and a player who from youth to senior hockey only had one club and that was Clydesdale Hockey Club. From those early days at Clydesdale Hockey Club Struan developed into one of the most exciting talents Clydesdale, West District and Scotland have ever produced and a player any of our youngsters can look up to learn from as an amazing role model.

It hasn't always been Clydesdale though, after making his U21 debut for Scotland in 2019 Struan moved to Club An der Alster in 2020, before making his full Scotland debut in 2021. He then moved to Surbiton in 2023 to sample the English League before moving to his present club Orange-Rood where he was awarded the Golden Stick as best player of season 2025/26 in the Tulp Hoofdklasse with Xan de Waard of SCHC . This is such an amazing honour bestowed on Struan by his peers, and with the honour of advising Struan on his award going to ex Scottish International Kenny Bain it became an interesting Scottish time..

Very best wishes to Struan from West District Hockey for being such an amazing role model to our kids and indeed those across Scotland and huge congratulations on winning such a prestigious award in one of Europe’s top leagues.

So today was the under 15 Inter District at Glasgow Green. West had two teams entered with yellow improving with every game before missing the semi finals on goal difference. Cerise did make the final but lost to the only goal of the game scored by North District with 20 seconds left on the clock. Well done to both Cerise and Yellow West teams and congratulations to North.

🏆🏑 Finals Day Complete at Upper Windyedge! 🏑🏆

A brilliant day of West District hockey saw:

🥇 Kelburne 3s lift the West District Plate with a 3-0 win over Rottenrow
🥇 Western 3s retain the George Black Trophy after a thrilling 5-3 victory against Clydesdale 3s 🔥
