Guys; this is an email received today from Ardrossan RFC: they are looking for some of the more 'physically developed' players from the forwards to join forces and play a curtain raiser slow 7's match. Any U18's up for it, let me know by Saturday 18th May.
Thanks
Nic
Gents
I will start by saying thanks for your interest, and we look forward to seeing you and your guys at Ardrossan on the 1st, and with your support, it should be a cracking day, with really competitive Sevens and a great atmosphere.
Like you, our squad is going to be splitting up at the end of this season, which is most likely climaxing at the tournament, and I would like to see if we can get help to organise something, as a sendoff for the guys who are moving to seniors, but also to try and get the whole squad involved in the day, I am referring here to our respective forwards.
Originally we had thought of entering a team of forwards in the competition, but Andrew Duncan, our RDO, has gently made me see the folly of this.... so, I have another idea, to thank these guys for their efforts, and hopefully give them something to remember too from the day.
Could you ask your guys in the forwards if they would be interested in participating in a Big Boys event, a one-off game, likely to be played before the finals on the day, exclusively for forwards? If each club could bring a couple of players, more if available, then between them and our guys, we would easily have two teams for a sevens game. We would have one team in our seniors change kit, and the other could play all in their club strips, which would highlight the inter-club feel of the whole thing. Ardrossan would put players in both teams, and with rolling subs, the big guys would get the chance to play on the day, and really be part of it all - thoughts, guys, can we get enough players from our collective clubs to make the teams up?
And another thought, if you can, bring as many of your teams as will come down on the day, and ask them to think about fancy dress, both for players and support, it would be great to see everyone dressed up round the pitches, as well as after the event - just help to create a good atmosphere to celebrate our seasons coming to an end.
I am interested in your thoughts on this, gents, and feedback on the likely support from your guys.
Looking forward to the day - see you there!!
Best regards
Murray Galloway
