Edinburgh Jets 0 - Lenzie 3

It was a depleted Lenzie squad that travelled to Broughton High School for a match Lenzie needed to win to maintain any hope of getting to a promotion playoff spot. Nathan Loustalot took on setting responsibility meaning it was a different Lenzie passing unit.

Set 1 Jets 21 - Lenzie 25

With a victory needed to maintain their Division 1 status it was a committed Jets team that started well in the first set edging into a 5-2 lead due to good serving and a some lacklustre Lenzie service reception. Lenzie’s block timing was poor enabling Jets to XP. Lenzie’s hitters were struggling to get any rhythm making several errors before a flurry of Jets errors eased the pressure and helped Lenzie take the first set.

Set 1 Jets 18 - Lenzie 25

It was a sharper Lenzie in the second set knowing that in the previous match they had lost focus and then a set! More consistent hitting by Lenzie and improved defence meant that despite some strong Jets hitting Lenzie were rarely troubled closing out the set to 18.

Set 1 Jets 20- Lenzie 25

The third set was a closer affair but for once Lenzie’s game management combined with a number of errors by Jets meant that Lenzie were just able to stay ahead until a final service error by Jets meant that Lenzie won the set and the match. Commiserations to Jets as the result sees them relegated.

So 3-0 Lenzie and three points but there were lots of elements that need to be addressed for the next match if Lenzie are to stay in the promotion race.

Next week sees league leaders Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex visit Lenzie for the match that was postponed due to bad weather in January . Aberdeen have the opportunity to strengthen their chances to win the league whilst Lenzie can maintain their hunt for a play off spot so lots to play for! Lenzie 1 City of Edinburgh 3

So the dream is over ☹️ After an excellent result in the league last week Lenzie came into this cup match seeking to challenge one of the top teams in Scotland. Any hope that CoE would take this lightly were quickly dashed when it was obvious that a full 14man squad had arrived!

Set 1 Lenzie 13 CoE 25

Indeed it was a less than full strength Lenzie squad that won the toss and quickly discovered that this was going to test their discipline and work rate as CoE eased into a four pints lead at 4-8 before a Lenzie time-out was taken to try and slow CoE momentum. The teams traded points with Lenzie briefly closing the gap to 3 points at 9-12 before a combination of Lenzie errors and solid CoE blocking and hitting saw them ease away to close the set out 12-25

Set 2 Lenzie 25 - CoE 14

So would Lenzie crumble, would heads drop ? CoE made a couple of changes which combined with a run of excellent serves by Lenzie captain Artur Mielewczyk helped Lenzie build a 7-1 lead! Effective side out play even as CoE substituted back to their first set line up saw Lenzie manage the game well to win the set 25-14

Set 3 Lenzie 12 - CoE 25

Set 3 was competitive at the start with teams trading points up to 9-9 but a run of strong CoE serves, some Lenzie errors meant CoE were not challenged and despite some excellent defense CoE finished the set 12-25

Set 4 Lenzie 21 - CoE 25

Lenzie knew they had to raise their game if they wanted to take it to a fifth set and they did ! The fourth set was proper side out volleyball with no more than a couple of points between the sides until at the business end of the set when the greater consistency of CoE finally told and they finished the set 21-25

So no more cup games for Lenzie this season☹️ but hopefully the experience of maintaining focus and of keeping the work rate up against a good team can be used in the remaining league games. A playoff spot is still available but only if the same effort can be maintained over the next 6 games.

Next week 21/02/26 Lenzie are away at Jets 2 before welcoming back Aberdeen Vortex to Lenzie on the 28/02/26

Lenzie 3 - Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex 0

After a disappointing previous weekend and 5 points dropped it was back to Lenzie Academy for a home game against the league leaders Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex.

Set 1 Lenzie 25 Aberdeen 23

Having won the toss Lenzie quickly built a 3 point lead that enabled them to keep pressure on an Aberdeen squad that appeared lacking a little of their normal consistency. Solid passing and more disciplined blocking than of late meant Lenzie that Lenzie were able to play side out volleyball to close out the first set.

Set 2 Aberdeen 22 - Lenzie 25

It was another close set with neither side able to get more than a couple of points ahead until a run of three serves and solid blocking saw Lenzie sneak ahead 18-15 again the sides traded points with Lenzie using the full range of their attacking options to ensure Aberdeen were not able to get a run of serves. Errors were creeping into Aberdeen’s game now and for once Lenzie were able to maintain consistency to finish the set 25-22

Set 3 Lenzie 25 - Aberdeen 14

Lenzie went into the third set with the knowledge that if they could maintain their discipline the pressure was on Aberdeen to stay in the match. Again the teams traded points until an excellent run of serves by Patryk Kosmalski saw Lenzie build a 6 point lead at 11-5. Strong serving and solid defence meant on each rotation Lenzie were able to capture a couple of points till they finally finished the set and the match 25-14.

Better combinations and improved communications helped Lenzie demonstrate that on their day they are a potent force . There are still things to work though!

The result means there is still the possibility of Lenzie claiming a playoff place but it does mean the pressure is on during the run in!

Next weekend (14th February) sees Lenzie take on City of Edinburgh at Lenzie Academy FBS 10:00 in the Scottish Cup quarterfinal. Come along and see if Lenzie can raise their game to challenge a top Premier League side

After less than memorable results last weekend Lenzie face league leaders Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex at on Saturday 7th February at Lenzie Academy FBS 12:44 . The first meeting in the league saw Aberdeen run out 3-2 winners. Lenzie will hope to get back to winning ways so come along and see some high quality league 1 men’s volleyball

Lenzie 3 Nuvoc 2

Lenzie are OUT of the Plate this year because they are in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup!

Missing 2 players and their coach on the day Lenzie had Premier League opposition in the Nuvoc. Lenzie were eager to go one better than last year when losing in 5 to Glasgow Mets.

Set 1 Lenzie 25 Nuvoc 20

Despite Lenzie serving first it was Nuvoc that steadily built up a 4 point lead before excellent serving from Lenzie captain Artur Mielewczyk dragged them level at 9-9. For once the Lenzie block and defense was working well with excellent passing from libero Nathan Loustalot helping captain and setter Artur Arczer Mielewczyk use his middle hitters to break down the Nuvoc defense. The solid defense also allowed Lenzie servers to put pressure on the Nuvoc passing unit with a great series of serves from Yeray Peña Hernandez took Lenzie into 7 point lead before effective game management (not a phrase used a lot about the team!) saw Lenzie take the first set 25-20

The second set was a closer affair with teams trading points and only a couple of points in it. This was good quality competitive volleyball with the experienced Nuvoc side just managing to edge it 23-25

The third set was another close affair with middle Rafal Rav Rizol putting in a serious shift to help Lenzie build up a four point lead at 20-16 before Fabian Pablo came on to change the attack drilling a superb hit to maintain momentum before the teams traded points through to the last few critical points where another Yeray Peña Hernandez serve closed out the set for Lenzie 25-23.

Set 4 Lenzie 22-Nuvoc 25

Nuvoc may not be chasing a top 4 place in the Premier League and weren’t going to give up easily and quickly built up a 4 point lead that they never looked like surrendering even as Lenzie clawed a few points back to lose the set 25-23

Set 5 Lenzie 15- Nuvoc 13

So a deciding set it was . Kamil Śpiewak got Lenzie’s first point on the board before Nuvoc edged ahead 8-6 at the turn. Was it to be heartbreak again or could Lenzie turn it round? Take a bow Patryk Kosmalski a run of 6! Superb serves backed up by solid defense took Lenzie to 12-8 but could they close it out? A brief run of Nuvoc serves brought them close before Lenzie’s Mr dependable Dominykas Meištas killed the final point!!

3-2 2hrs 3mins and 5 points between the sides over five sets an Epic indeed.

A great performance and result what more can a coach ask for!

Lenzie progress to a quarterfinal against City of Edinburgh on 14th February whilst we wish Nuvoc all the best in the Plate.

Lenzie return to SVL league action next week with a triangular against Dundee and Shetland FBS 10am at Lenzie Academy 13/12/25 come along for some great volleyball!

It will soon be time to start opening the doors on your advent calendars but before then Lenzie have another away game!! Not in Edinburgh but in Dundee and at a new venue for us of Greenfield Academy. A couple of poor results last week for Dundee Volleyball Club saw Lenzie leapfrog them in the league but you can be sure they will ready for Saturday’s match. Matches have often been very close with 5 sets occurring with alarming frequency. So get yourself away from the hordes of Christmas shoppers and watch some SVL Division 1 volleyball FBS 11:45

Jets II 1 Lenzie 3

Well that was interesting! Holidays and work commitments meant is was a reduced Lenzie squad that with setting duties Yeray Peña Hernandez by Nathan Loustalot with Yeray Pena Hernandez playing Libero.

Set 1 8-25

Was it as one sided as it sounds? Yes excellent serving including a run of 10 from Dom Meistas solid passing from Yeray Peña Hernandez and some great hitting all round meant it was wrapped up in 16 mins .

Set 2 24-26

So it was a happy confident Lenzie that took to the court for the second set. That didn’t last long a run of seven serves saw Jets II race into an early lead and it was only by some good serving and occasionally excellent hitting that Lenzie were able claw their way back to parity at 13-13 . The game was changing though with Lenzie becoming less consistent and less confident allowing Jets to mix up their play before a few Jets errors allowed Lenzie to tie up the set .

Set 3 25-21

Jets tails were up and they had the momentum and they quickly built a lead of 4 points that they never gave up with some excellent hitting and intelligent tips and rolls. Lenzie simply had no answer to this making numerous errors and getting increasingly frustrated. As the set reached its end it was a very unhappy Yeray Hernandez that (very strongly) questioned the first officials ( correct ) call resulting in a red card 😫

Set 4 17-25

Squeaky bum time (again) . Could Lenzie get their groove back and stop the match going to a deciding set?

Well it didn’t seem like it 😩Jets quickly pulled ahead to lead 9-5 with Lenzie struggling to get any rhythm. However slowly but surely the errors were eliminated and little runs of 2 and 3 points hauled Lenzie level at 16-16 before a final run of excellent serves by Nathan Loustalot closed out the set 17-25 and the match 1-3.

So a set dropped but 3 points gained. After the third set performance this was a classic case of take the win and move on.

With a free weekend there are a few training sessions before Lenzie head to Dundee for a match against one of the league’s form teams on the 29th November.

There are certainly a few things to work on at those training sessions though!

After a solid 3-0 cup victory against Gentlemen volleyball club last Saturday it is back to league action (and back along the M8 again!!!) with a game against Jets II at Edinburgh College Granton 350 West Granton Road, Edinburgh, EH5 1QE FBS 10:30. With Dundee Volleyball Club and Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex playing each other this is a chance for Lenzie to keep the pressure on at the top of SVL Division 1.

Gentlemen 0 Lenzie 3

A warm welcome greeted the Lenzie squad at Wishaw with Motherwell Volleyball Invitational helping officiate the match and several of the Gentlemen volleyball club having joined forces with Lenzie players for a number of tournaments over the summer. A small crowd ( yes people dragged themselves out of bed on a Saturday morning. Thank you Facebook 😀) occupied the tiered seating next to the court so shout out to supporters of both teams.

The warm up demonstrated that both sides had the firepower and that the game was likely to be decided on the serve/passing battle.

Game on!

Set 1 Gentlemen 16 Lenzie 25

A full Lenzie squad for the first time this season meant a few selection problems (nice ones!) for the Lenzie coach and the first six repaid his confidence swiftly build a 3 points lead that they never lost gradually increasing the pressure easing away to a comfortable 25-16 win.

Set 2 Gentlemen 23 Lenzie 25

But this is Lenzie I hear you say ? Surely it will be different in the second set? And yes it was a much closer affair with Gentlemen immediately bouncing back to take an early lead with the sides trading points with atack dominating defence ( a few spectacular lengthy rallies aside) until a few Gentlemen errors gave Lenzie the chance to close out the set 25-23

Set 3 Gentlemen 20 Lenzie 25

With only 7 players Gentlemen’s intensity dropped a fraction in the third set enabling Lenzie to maintain a lead that whilst never comfortable was always enough to manage the game through to finish the set 25-20 and the game 3-0

The Lenzie passing unit was not at its best (sometimes the coach tries rotations that don’t work and sometimes players have an off day today was a bit of both!) meaning opportunities for giving the whole squad more court time were limited.

We wish Gentlemen the best in the next round of the cup or plate (i don’t understand how the league section of the cup works!) whilst Lenzie look forward to seeing what the draw brings us!

Next week is another away SVL Division 1 league game for Lenzie against Jets II. Edinburgh College Granton 350 West Granton Road, Edinburgh, EH5 1QE FBS 10:30am. Come along and see if Lenzie can keep the pressure on the top SVL Division 1 sides as we move towards the festive break.😊

Liberton Nuvoc 0 Lenzie 3

Another away game, another trip along the M8 for Lenzie, and fortunately another 3 points!

Set 1 19-25

Excellent serving meant that Lenzie quickly built up a 5 points early in the first set. But as errors crept in Lenzie called a time out at 11-9 up. It was a refocused team that went back on court to extend the lead to 4 points before a few Nuvoc errors enabled Lenzie to close it out 19-25

Set 2 16-25

Lenzie maintained the momentum of the first set quickly building up an 8 points early lead and demonstrated better game management that allowed some valuable court time for Fabian Izycki whilst claiming the set 16-25

Set 3 21-25

Lenzie again built a 5 point lead at 3-8 but Nuvoc fought back with some excellent defence and good hitting forcing Lenzie to call a timeout at 10-14 to try and prevent Nuvoc building on the momentum. As the third set neared its conclusion there were some excellent lengthy rallies as Nuvoc fought to take the match into fourth set getting to 18-20 before some solid composed play enabled Lenzie to finish the set 21-25 and the match 0-3

Some excellent play and some unbelievable serves ( not in a good way😀) meant that Lenzie come away with the result they wanted if not the consistent level of performance that will be needed against the SVL1 top teams. So a few things to work on at training!

Next week it is a Scottish Cup match against Gentleman FBS at Wishaw Sports Centre FBS 10:00. So come along and watch some good 😀 volleyball.
