Women on Wheels Hub

Women on Wheels Hub Women on Wheels (SCIO) is a community cycling hub for women. The world of everyday cycling is dominated by a white male demographic.

A service designed and led by women, we deliver a range of cycling activities to get women back on a bike or onto a bike for the very first time. It is much less common for women to cycling for transport and leisure, especially women of colour. Our mission is to empower and enable women to overcome their barriers to take up cycling - for transport, to improve their physical and mental health, and

most importantly, for the pure joy of it! Follow us on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/women_wheels/

I can't live without my bike. It's essential.

I drop my kid off and need to get to work to teach at 9.30.

I tried two weeks without my bike when it broke, but it was so stressful.

I like cycling with my daughter.

A huge shoutout to the amazing women who have come on in leaps and bounds at our Learn to Ride lessons 🚴‍♀🚴‍♀🚴‍♀

They've overcome fears, challenged themselves, been each others cheerleaders and many have now "graduated" the lessons and either moved on to our cycling confidence skills sessions or are out happily cycling on their own.

If you would also like to learn to cycle or want to get back on a bike, we are here to support you. Just give us a call on 07927357140 and we can tell you more or book a lesson right away on Plinth: https://book.plinth.org.uk/org/n0r27GnqYoSbfMBSMnsG?tag=Adult+Cycling+Lessons

Join us for a free family-friendly ride to Glasgow Science Centre who are celebrating their 25th anniversary with free entry for G42 residents. We'll set off at 10am from our Hub in Govanhill on a route suitable for confident little riders and families, arriving with plenty of time to explore the many exhibits 🔬⚛🚴

After having a blast at Glasgow Science Centre, we'll cycle back to the Hub arriving by 2pm.

The ride is open to everyone, with a minimum age of 6 years (younger children are welcome but must be carried by bike seat/trailer/cargo bike etc). Children must be confident cyclists and able to ride independently with their family on a mixed-use route. Cargo bikes and trailers are very welcome!

Either bring your own bikes or borrow one of ours. We both have kids and adult bikes available as well as helmets.

Please remember to bring proof of your G42 address to get free access! You are still welcome to join the free ride if you live outside G42, but you will have to pay an entry fee to get into the Science Centre.

Throwback to the last time we went to Kilmardinny Loch and said hello to oversized rats and some feathery friends. 10/10 would recommend!

As we sadly had to cancel the last 4-hour ride, we are chuffed to bring back this route in July. On our way up north we'll pass through the lovely Botanics and Bear's Way.

If you fancy joining us, here's the key details:

Cycling has given me freedom, confidence, and emotional relief during a difficult period of displacement. As a refugee woman living in a hotel and often feeling isolated, being able to ride a bike has opened up my world again. It helps me feel independent, connected to the community, and in control of my own movement. The physical activity supports my mental wellbeing, while the sense of belonging during group rides reminds me that I am not alone. Cycling has become a small but powerful way of rebuilding myself in a new place.

Snaps from our last mountain biking session in Pollok Park 📸

This might sound cheesy, but when was the last time you felt truly ALIVE? You know that feeling when a friendly adrenaline is rushing through your body as you prepare to attempt something new. Then once you do it, the adrenaline turns into euphoria and a profound sense of wellbeing.

To us, mountain biking is one of those activities that brings out those feelings. It’s made even better when you’re with awesome women and supported by a friendly instructor that challenges you but also helps keep you safe.

If you fancy joining in, we’ve got a few sessions coming up:

🚵‍♀️Intermediate Mountain Biking at Cathkin Braes
📅Sunday 28 June, 10am-2pm
No need to be a pro - this is a fabulous session for those who have tried mountain biking before (perhaps you have given it a go at one of our sessions to Balfron, Pollok or Linn Park) and are looking to have fun on the trails and learn new skills with the help of an instructor.

🚵‍♀️Introduction to Mountain Biking - Evening Session in Pollok Park
📅Wednesday 1 July, 6-8.30pm
A brilliant session for those who can comfortably ride a bike but are new to mountain biking. We’ll practice fun drills and enjoy easy trails around the park.

Both sessions can be booked via our website: https://book.plinth.org.uk/org/n0r27GnqYoSbfMBSMnsG?tag=Events

Cruising along on a bike, feeling the wind in your hair is amazing. It's one of life's simple joys that makes the everyday just that wee bit better.

We want all women to be able to enjoy that feeling. That's why we are hosting Confidence Building Cycling Skills Sessions designed to ease nerves and anxieties and make riding feel joyful and fun. It's perfect for those who knows how to pedal but are feeling wobbly.

These sessions take place on alternate Saturdays 12-1.30pm with the next session being this Saturday 13 June: https://book.plinth.org.uk/e/vIeXaD9OEWVy2PB7TsLM
