Organised by Scottish Unity Football League and Glasgow Afghan United. Great to see MPs AND MSPs team taking part.

The aim of the tournament is the use of football as a means of promoting anti-discrimination by providing a platform which permits multi-ethnical interaction which eliminates “stereo-typical barriers” such as race, religion, nationality, age, sexual orientation and other factors. The tournament is aptly called the Refugee and Solidarity 2016 tournament, as a sign of solidarity for the multi-ethnical environment in Scotland. Through this event, local and refugee communities will come together to play and enjoy football, while having the opportunity to interact and socialise with one another. Furthermore, Scotland has been at the fore-front in accommodating refugees from war-torn countries for many years. This tournament is also designed to demonstrate that Scotland has a deep sense of hospitality and tolerance for humanity, hence, the refugee community is welcome.
It will be a one-day event with over 200 people expected to attend. There will be 20 teams registered for the 7 aside matches; with each team allowed to register 10 players only. Refreshment will be provided to all participants, and the tournament winner shall be awarded a trophy, in addition to the medals that will be given to both the runners-up and the eventual winners. The trophy and medals will duly be engraved with the name of the tournament - Refugee and Solidarity Scotland 2016.

Game of the week:

Glasgow Afghan United vs Scottish Afghan Society

The much anticipated derby between the two Afghan teams takes centre stage this Sunday. Both sides go into this match up with a lot of anticipation and desire to get the victory. Glasgow Afghan United will look for an immediate response following their 5-3 defeat last week at the hands of Govan side Parkvilla.

Last season's surprise package Scottish Afghan Society have had an indifferent start to their campaign and find themselves 9 points behind the leaders. A win on Sunday will help rejuvenate any title hopes they may still hold. However, they will need to to put together a sustained run of victories coupled with those above them dropping points along the way.

PREDICTION: Only one point separates These two sides on the league table. Both know each other well and we expect a tightly contested match with a few goals. Therefore we will go with Glasgow Afghan United to edge this one 3-2.
