Over the weekend we lost a large part of the club with the passing of Mr Peter Dempster BEM.
Everyone involved with the club, past and present, expresses their deepest sympathies with his son Billy, Granddaughter Shona, Grandson Scott and all the family.
Peters contribution to the club and community as a whole cannot be understated as he has taught not only generations, but entire families. Peter dedicated his life to the sport he loved, giving over 80 years of service to the club as a swimmer, teacher, water polo player, coach, handicapper and committee member. I can say personally committee meetings were never quite the same when Peter took a step back in the last few years, and they never will be again!
As a coach, he imparted his own experience and expertise into generations of swimmers and water polo players to make them the best athletes they could possibly be but the most important lessons Peter taught any of us was the valuable life lessons that we all hold dear to this day.
It's a cliche that the word legend is thrown around too much these days, but in Peters case it's not strong enough to describe the man. Peter the coach may have been a legend right enough, but Peter the man was a hero to us all and anyone who knew him can attest to that.
Everyone here at the club will miss Peter, but he will never be forgotten. He joined the club in 1938 at the age of 10 which is remarkable to think as he was still on poolside till only a few years ago. His mark has been well and truly been left on this club and will be a part of it forever.
*The family would like to hear any stories or memories that people have of Peter, and when we find out details of any service we will let everyone know as well as posting the details on here
