One of the first things we learn in any martial art is the proper way to ‘stand’.
Kamae is basic and natural, it is more than just a stance (which might often just refer to footwork). Kamae addresses the entire body posture and studies the correct way to align and ground with the earth
(also inclusive is a mental posture -
something we will address later…)

Since we are only as good as our foundation, strive to make this posture excellent - because this Kamae is essentially what ‘holds’ you.
Also, kamae is not just about being in a ‘ready’ stance at the beginning of technique - this posture is maintained throughout.
In the beginning, through transitions, and in the end (zanshin).
This ‘readiness’ posture is felt as a pause, not interrupting the midst of flow.
We maintain our structural integrity.
We are relaxed and ready.
And we remain grounded and solid
