A run fest at Glaisdale!

Unfortunately the first team couldn’t quite chase ‘s 244. A. Burtt (sponsored by Clover Hill Farm ) with 3-63 the standout with the ball, supported by T. Locker (SPONSOR REQUIRED) 1-28.

In the chase a 115 run partnership between S. Harland 80 (SPONSOR REQUIRED) and the skipper T. Wardell 49 (sponsored by Beacon Farm Ice Cream ) built the platform but we just couldn’t keep it up to get the win.

The seconds travelled to Wilson lane and battled to post a total against . S. Wright (SPONSOR REQUIRED) scored his first Redcap half century, supported by vice captain S. Bonnard (sponsored by Postgate Barn Holiday Cottage). We couldn’t manage to defend the total despite 3-55 from C. Garrett (SPONSOR REQUIRED).

A local derby this weekend as the firsts make the short trip to title challengers Grosmont.

Apologies Redcap fans, this is late getting out, but guess what our First team were in another YPLN last over thriller!

Our first team arrived at Wykeham CC official to miserable weather, however within 30 mins it’s miraculously cleared and we didn’t lose any overs. We posted a competitive total in tricky conditions thanks to 43* from young allrounder T. Tindall (SPONSOR REQUIRED) and 23 from A. Burtt (sponsored by Clover Hill Farm ) .

Full of one of the Division’s best teas we set to our work. The game ebbed and flowed, one Wykeham batter frustrated the whole way through whilst we continued to take wickets around him, skipper T. Wardell with 3-25 (sponsored by Beacon Farm Ice Cream ) and S. Padmore (SPONSOR REQUIRED) with 2-34. It would go to the last over, Wykeham needing 3 runs to win, Glaisdale one wicket, it was to be an edge over gully for four won the game. A cracker to be involved with.

Disappointment at home for the seconds who were beaten by a strong Wold Newton outfit. Our chairman M. Hollingworth (sponsored by S.I.Electrical Contractors(Whitby) ) attempting to show some resistance.

Look out for team news later on as we return to action today.

Today we said our final farewells to club legend Andrew Kelly. Andrew ran the junior team at Glaisdale CC for many years as his boys progressed through the team. Hundreds of people packed the service this afternoon at Egton Church for a very emotional celebration of his life. Andrew will be sadly missed by many people from all walks of life, but also fondly remembered for everything he did for Glaisdale Cricket Club. All our thoughts are with Jill, Jack, Patrick, Arthur, Nick and Joey. RIP Andrew.

Sunday 31st May our women and girls hosted a friendly against Snainton.
3 of them having never played in a women and girls game were very nervous. However they went onto the pitch with smiles on their faces and the energy just grew the further we got into the game. Marnie opening the bowling with Eva the other end they both bowled amazingly Marnie picking up a wicket at 26/1. Then Demi and Hannah were up next to bowl. Demi playing her first ever game got a run out in her first over then a bowled wicket in her second over. Hannah picking up a wicket by an amazing juggled catch on the boundary by Allison. Snainton were 167 after the 16 overs.
Glaisdale knew they had their work cut out. A quick tea and we were back out.
Hannah and Eva opening the batting. Hannah started off well with 4 4's it was looking good. Eva starting slowly with the nerves but then Hannah got bowled with her big swinging arm and no connection she was gone on 18 runs. Allison went in rotating the strike Eva had got going hitting some lovely shots most going for 4 and some lovely running between the wickets meant that Eva retired with 25 runs. Marnie was in, a lovely straight drive for 4 some good running then she was unfortunately bowled with 11 amazing runs! Glaisdale were 72/2 but it was still very tense!
Demi went in for the first time hit a lovely shot ran 2 and she was off the mark. Then 2nd ball hit in the air unfortunately caught out. (Asked for advise from hubby Joe what she should have done and his words were 'hit it harder') 🤣
Then it was me. After the speed of the bowling the day before the nerves were off and I went out and enjoyed batting for the first time this season. Just doing what I could to get the ball through the gap and probably hogging the strike (sorry Allison) I retired at 25 and Eva was back in!
Her and Allison did really well getting the runs and rotating the strike. A very tense game we were now looking promising on 123/4 with 2 overs to go. Allison retired and I went back in with Eva. Me not able to hit the 6's it was going to be tight and I ran 1 putting Eva on strike for the last 2 balls. 13 needed from 2 balls! She hit 2 lovely 4's finishing the game just 5 runs behind. Snainton win 167, Glaisdale 162.
Eva not out on 45 runs
Allison retired 25 runs
Sarah not out 37 runs
An incredible game that everyone should be proud of. Everyone enjoyed it, everyone was still smiling and the atmosphere was amazing!

Saturdays YPLN Results - ones a cracker

The firsts hosted league high fliers Staxton Cricket Club on a glorious afternoon. Batting first in great conditions we posted a very strong total of 239/3 thanks to 96* from S. Padmore (SPONSOR REQUIRED) and 68 from the skipper T. Wardell (sponsored by ) .

In reply Staxton batted all the way down and the game ebbed and flowed between the teams, taking it all the way to a dramatic last ball tie! A redcap first 5fer for Mr Chairman M. Hollingworth (sponsored by .i.electricalcontractors_ ) and 2-21 from S. Harland (SPONSOR REQUIRED) were the standout performers.

An excellent advert for village cricket from both sides 👏🏼.

The seconds had a tough Saturday out travelling the long journey to Sherburn cricket club for little reward, with skipper G. Blake (sponsored by Long Kings Chinese) providing some resistance. However, when interviewed after the game training coordinator H. Foster took the positives, ‘we were in the pub and back home for tea nice and early’.

We go again next week.
