The River Girvan Fishing Club

We had a fantastic turn out for our fourth and final leg of our River competition. The river was in perfect form, possibly a touch brown. There were high hopes of more Salmon.
There were 8 qualifying fish caught today. 6 of them being sea trout.
John Green landed a 17.5 inch long sea trout, beating his personal best.
Stuart Davidson won the day with 6 of the 8 fish caught going to him. 4 sea trout, the biggest being 15.5 inches and two brown trout. The combined length he caught today allowed him to win the overall competion.
Leighton Rae won the Juniors sheild.

We done to Red McGregor for catching the first salmon of the season. 28 inch bar of silver, fresh from the sea and larger fish after that at 32 inches. Hopefully we will see some more tomorrow at our competition.

Just a reminder that the 4th and last leg of the River competition will be next Saturday 5th of September. Same as always. Meet in the hospital carpark for 8.30am. Fishing commences at 9am. Let Stuart know if you intend on coming. Raffle tickets will be available as usual too.

There were 6 of us that took part in the night sea trout competition last night. There were two sea trout caught.
Well done to John Green in winning the trophy 🏆 👏

Just a reminder that the 2nd and final leg of the night time sea trout competition will be held tomorrow. Meet at the carpark for 5.30pm to get your ticket. Fishing will start at 6pm finish at 2am.

It was lovely to meet Stuart again from The River Girvan Fishing Club who emailed looking for a small raffle prize for their fundraising. It was my pleasure to help. Good luck with your fundraising.

It was hard fishing today at the competition. There were only two fish caught, that qualified. One brown trout one sea trout. There was a salmon sighted jumping a few times. The river level was still low and we desperately need rain to get the migratory fish moving. It was still a good turn out of 15 people and although the rain was threatening to fall it turned out a nice day.

Congratulations to Ewen Cameron in winning the 3rd leg and stretching his lead.
