Cardio or resistance training?
The benefits of both types of training are vast and almost limitless but there are some significant differences which will help you determine how much of each you carry out.
Cardio trains your heart and lungs and builds your endurance by improving breathing patterns and blood movement around the body. This is especially beneficial if you are a runner, cyclist, swimmer or any other athlete type where you are moving. Not many activities involve no movements 🤣
Resistance training predominately improves your strength of bones, muscles and joints and trains them to be stronger and potentially larger or more toned. There’s an aesthetic element of course to this but from a health perspective it’s also helpful to have these body systems stronger and more able to deal with demanding lifestyles of work and play.
As you can see from the info above everyone is helped by having improved fitness in both cardio AND resistance training. Day to day life involves prolonged periods of activity that cardio is suited to, and shorter bursts of strength based activities. Our bodies are designed for movement so keep moving and keep progressing your fitness in all elements
