An interesting Rookies session tonight. Whilst the Gold Rookies did land based CPR training, Silver and Bronze bathed in the sunlight of Helios Jubilee Pool Bristol . Bliss 😊

Congratulations to the Rookies who took part in the Jubileeathon last week! A great team effort and some fantastic individual performances with many, many lengths achieved! A huge 👏 to Emmy, Erys, Orla, Arty, Joseph, Jack and Archie!!

On Sun 12 Oct one of our instructors, Blondie, will be raising money for Jubilee Swimming Pool by attempting to completing his Rookie Masters Award - all in one go!

Blondie is aiming to complete the following awards, back-to-back without a break:

🛟 Rookie Bronze stages 1, 2 & 3
🛟 Rookie Silver stages 1, 2 & 3
🛟 Rookie Gold stages 1, 2, 3
🛟 Rookie Sport Award (Bronze, Silver and Gold)
🛟 Rookie Life Support
🛟 Rookie Water Safety Award
🛟 Rookie Communications Award

Over the course of this challenge, he'll swim a combined total of over 140 lengths, tread water for 12 minutes, and effect over 30 separate rescues (and yes: a fair few of those lengths have to completed whilst wearing pyjamas)!

Blondie is tackling this challenge as part of the "Jubilee-athon" - a 24hr fundraising swimming relay at Jubilee Pool - home of Bristol Life Saving Club.

We're currently full, but our sister club, Keynsham Lifesaving Club *is* accepting new members this term!

😃Keynsham Life Saving Club is holding a taster session for prospective members on Sunday 14 September 2025, 2–4pm at Keynsham Leisure Centre. It's open to young people aged 8–18 to come along.

▶️ The taster session will give you a flavour of a typical club night, including basic first aid, casualty recognition, safe pool entries and rope-throw rescues.

....and that's a wrap! After an epic trip to the Aqua Park today, we're now done until September. It's time for our instructors and volunteers to take a well-deserved break. Here's wishing all our members a safe and enjoyable summer. I'll leave you with this video of our exploits at Bournemouth last weekend - 8 hours of fun condensed into just five minutes (and featuring a guest appearance by the Red Arrows)...

Reminder for everyone who's booked a place on the aqua park trip:

Where? West Country Water Park, Trench Lane, Bristol, BS36 1RY or use https://what3words.com/retail.aside.snow

When? 3:30pm-5pm (don't be late because the park may refuse to let you participate if you miss the safety briefing)

What to wear? You must wear appropriate swimwear including a wetsuit (bring your own or make your own arrangements to hire one on the day from the water park for an additional fee). You can wear swimming goggles if you wish. Boots or shoes are not allowed on the aqua park. Buoyancy aids will be provided and must be worn at all times on the aqua park.

So grateful to all the instructors and volunteers from Keynsham Lifesaving Club and Bristol Life Saving Club for making this happen, and a HUGE thankyou to Bournemouth Lifeguard Corps: your passion for lifesaving is amazing, and you always make us feel so welcome! What a fabulous day. 🙂
