Whickham Thorns Outdoor Activity Centre

Whickham Thorns Outdoor Activity Centre, is managed by Gateshead Scouts a voluntary charity organisation.

Whickham Thorns Outdoor Adventure Centre is a 56 acre woodland site on the outskirts of Newcastle. Its current facilities include an outdoor ski slope, a high ropes course and a climbing wall. Its woodland provides ample opportunity to be utilised as an engaging environment for the provision of bush craft and camping adventures. It is currently under the custodianship of Gateshead District Scouts.

Gateshead District Scouts are part of the UK Scout Association, an organisation recognised nationally for its excellence in voluntary provision of adventure and skills for life for young people.

Learning doesn't just happen in a classroom—it happens on the water too! 🛶
Our team spent the day on paddle boards and kayaks as part of a staff training day focused on leadership, teamwork, and outdoor learning. From navigating challenges on the water to supporting one another through new experiences, it was a great reminder of the power of adventure, building confidence and communication.
As an outdoor activity centre, we're passionate about creating these experiences for the children, people and school groups who visit us, so it's important that we continue to learn, grow, and challenge ourselves too.
A brilliant day of laughs, learning, and getting a little wet along the way! 💙

🌟 Fantastic feedback from a recent Cub Scout visit! 🌟
Our guests enjoyed an exciting day of Snow Tubing, Laser Tag, High Ropes, Valo Climb, and Crate Stacking. Most importantly, we received some amazing feedback about our staff, who were praised for their energy, support, and professionalism throughout the day.
