Geoff Hopkinson - Scorer & Statistician Extraordinaire!!
Itโs with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Geoff Hopkinson.
For those who knew Geoff and had the pleasure of his company, whether if that was sat on the boundary during cricket season, in the pub after a match, bumping into him at the pub quiz or letting him outwit you at dominos, know what a true gentleman and all round legend he was.
Geoff, for more years than many of us can remember, was a constant at Roses CC (and I believe at the likes of Holy Trinity CC beforehand) and most recently in the early years of what has evolved into Gainsborough CC today. An integral part of cricket locally, Geoff was our first team scorer and all round incredible statistician. He never missed a ball or made a mistake scoring (certainly not that he would admit to anyway) unless he was distracted / chatted up by an oppositions female scorer. At a moments question, Geoff could tell you your batting average, how long you were at the crease, how many wickets you had taken for the season and he always took great delight in reminding you of that terrible dropped catch from several games ago.
As an ex-forces man, rumoured excellent cricketer in his day, a damn good pub quizzer and master dominoes player, Geoff who was well known locally by many of the cricketing fraternity in Morton, Gainsborough, Bassetlaw and Lincolnshire, will be sorely missed. From everyone at Gainsborough CC, we send our heartfelt condolences to Geoffโs family and thank them for allowing us to write this post.
Rest in peace ๐
Geoffโs funeral is being held at Lea Crematorium on Thursday 6th August at 12.30 with drinks/refreshments taking place at Ferry House afterwards.
