For my third pregnancy, I’m doing things differently
With my first, I did no preparation at all. I had a very “go with the flow” attitude. I was calm — and that helped — but I didn’t have knowledge. I didn’t fully understand birth physiology, how hormones influence labour, or what my options really were.
When I was induced, I didn’t realise how different induced labour can feel compared to spontaneous labour. I didn’t understand the impact of positioning, movement, or the environment on labour progression. I didn’t know the questions to ask. And because of that, it wasn’t the smooth experience I had imagined.
With my second, everything shifted. I discovered hypnobirthing, and began to truly understand how the body is designed to birth. I practised breathwork, visualisation, deep relaxation and massage — but more importantly, I understood the science behind it. The role of oxytocin. The importance of feeling safe. The connection between tension and pain.
That birth was smooth. Empowering. Even enjoyable.
Since then, I’ve trained as a hypnobirthing teacher and a pregnancy yoga specialist. Supporting women through pregnancy and birth has deepened my understanding of biomechanics, nervous system regulation, optimal positioning and informed choice. It’s shown me just how powerful preparation can be.
And now, I get to bring all of that into my own birth space.
✨ I’ll be intentionally preparing my body with strength, mobility and pregnancy-specific yoga to support birth and postpartum recovery.
✨ I’m exploring the option of a home birth, or staying home as long as possible in early labour to protect the hormonal flow that supports physiological birth.
✨ If induction becomes necessary, I’ll prioritise movement, upright positions and evidence-based comfort techniques to support progress and baby’s descent.
✨ I’ll prepare for all outcomes — including a caesarean — knowing that informed choice and autonomy still matter in every birth scenario.
✨ I’ll be intentional about immediate skin-to-skin and breastfeeding to support bonding and hormone balance from the very beginning.
The biggest difference this time?
I’m not just hoping for a positive birth.
I’m actively preparing for one.
I’m combining lived experience, professional training and deep trust in the body.
And that feels powerful.
