Our Mixed Pairs team welcomed Glossop to our green on a beautiful sunny evening after a stormy day.

The teams are neck-and-neck in the league so this was always going to be a difficult match, so well done team for getting the win!

Our fabulous Ladies Vets team braved the stormy weather today for a home match against Disley. As ever there were lots of smiles amidst the focus of the game! Thank you to everyone who came along both to play and watch.

Our Tuesday night Mixed Pairs team were away at Chapel Park this week. Not an easy fixture as the green is relatively small, pretty fast and the Club has some excellent players to boot. We do love a challenge tho and always enjoy playing on this green. Well done team!

The first home game for the Ladies Team this Thursday and it was baptism by fire. We played the excellent Birch Vale, who last season played in Division A 🫣

As ever our team kept their cool (aided, of course, by tea, biscuits and ice cream), and just bowled their best. The final result was very close indeed with just 3 points in it at the end!

Final score Furness 122 - 125 Birch Vale. Well done ladies!

The Mixed Pairs team welcomed Disley Ram’s to the green this week. Our locally made Ginge & Co ice-cream was on offer again with honeycomb and chocolate brownie being fiercely fought over.

Mixed Pairs is a competitive variant of the traditional singles game in which four players battle it out. With 8 bowls and the jack it can get a bit busy!

Congrats to Jen from our Club who made it to the quarters with her pairs partner Bob in a comp at Tideswell this week. The Furness Vale green is full of features and is a great place to train and play. Perfect for building good technique and progressing with your game.

Joining our Club costs just £25 for first year players. It’s the same price for social players -so if you just want to practice at our green that’s an option too and we welcome everyone. Membership includes full access to the green, clubhouse, use of club bowls and facilities etc.

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to the green opening. It was an honour to have our lifetime President Cliff Jodrell send out the first bowl of the season.

The weather was on our side, we all got a massive sugar hit from the fabulous baked goods on offer, and the atmosphere was knockout.

An auspicious start to what is promising to be a great season for the Club and its members.

Our green opens today at 2pm. We look forward to welcoming old friends and new faces. There will be refreshments including homemade cakes.

All are welcome and bowls and coaching are available for anyone wishing to give this wonderful game a try. The forecast is good so do come along 😊
