Frome Park Bowls Club We are a Flat Green Lawn bowling club providing league, friendly matches and public access for both men, women and mixed teams throughout the summer season.

Founded in 1931 Frome Park Bowling Club is located in Victoria Park, Frome.

Ladies Friendly v Keynsham Tuesday 10th September

Nothing really to say!

Checked the weather, spoke to Keynsham Captain and was reassured so off we went!
We managed 4/5 ends before the heavens opened. We took a break in the hopes that the rain would clear but were sadly disappointed. A real shame but that's British weather for you.

Frome Park A team bowlers have had a strong finish to their county league campaign in Division East 1 with a couple of very impressive wins. Firstly at a huge win at home against Paulton . Then in their last game of the season, an even better result in their away fixture at local rivals Frome Selwood. Unfortunately, this was still not quite enough to win the division, the Park missing out on the top spot and promotion to Premier 2 by finishing as runners up.

Frome Park B also had a good finish to the season, winning their last 2 games. The Frome Park B team finishing a creditable 4th place in East 2.

Our Frome Park ladies have not been getting the best of luck and have been finding it tough to win games especially in the Wild League despite some close fought games.

We must also acknowledge that we have successful season recruiting new players to the club increasing our membership overall.

Our first outdoor game against Clarrie Dunbar Indoor Bowls Club

On Saturday 7th September we welcomed a team from Clarrie Dunbar Indoor Bowls Club, for a game at The Park. A very apt fixture as The Park, was Clarrie's home club. In the CD team were some who had never played on an outdoor green before, but we also welcomed back some old friends, in Pete Wheeler, Betty Warren, Ailsa Midwinter and Keith & Sue Bird. Everybody enjoyed a relaxed afternoon bowls, with the Indoor Bowlers adapting well to a wet outdoor green. The Park won on 3 rinks, CD on 1 with The Park managing to win overall. Lets hope that this can now become an annual event.

Frome Park bowls club played Avonvale B.C. on Wed. 31st July for the very first time. They are very nice people, and we had very good game in spite of the very hot weather. Frome Park won on all 4 rinks. We play them away on Sat. 21st September, our last game of the year, and I recommend members put their names down, as I am sure everyone who plays will enjoy it.

Frome Festival Open Day

On Tuesday afternoon we held our annual Frome Festival Open Day.

Despite it raining on and off through out the afternoon many members turned out to make our visitors feel welcome and get them on the green bowling.
It was great that we had 15 visitors who braved the weather to have a go at our sport and enjoying their time with us, many showing interest in coming back for another try, with 3 completing membership forms on the spot.

Thank you to all the visitors who did not mind getting wet to try a new sport and our members who attended to help make this a good afternoon for everybody.

Frome Park into 4th round of National men's Top Club competition.

On Thursday evening our men's Top Club team had a great win against Premier Division 2 side Congresbury.
In the 2 wood Keith McLeod fought well but eventually lost 8-15.
In the 4 wood singles Colin Henning put up a tremendous performance against a young player from Congresbury who has been selected in this seasons Somerset Middelton Cup team, at one stage Colin was 16-8 down, then fought back to lead 20-19 eventually winning 21-20.
This left us needing 2 wins out of the 3 remaining disciplines.
In the pairs Colin Hale and John Barber were always in control of their game running out winners 21-12, in the triples Philip Wood Eddie Maidment and Steve West played very well on a tricky rink to run out 28-8 winners, including picking up 8 shots on one end.
This meant the four of Derek Shulman Frank Russell Les Stather and Dave Whitehead did not have to complete their game, which was nip and tuck all the way through and could have gone either way.
This gave the Park a 3-2 win, in the next round we are home to Bristol.

Well done to everybody.

Pride for Park side in defeat at Clevedon:

Our men's Double Rink side travelled to Clevedon on Sunday in the third round of this national competition.
Clevedon are a quality Premiership 1 side packed with county Middleton Cup players.
The game was close throughout at 16 ends across the 2 rinks we were 2 shots up, but in the last 2 ends Clevedon just pulled ahead to win by 5 shots.
The rink of Philip Wood Steve Cantrell John Barber and Wayne Pitts put in a great performance to win by 4 shots.
The rink of Colin Hale Les Stather Dave Whitehead and Steve West bowled very well but lost by 9 shots against a very good rink the overall score 30-25, only 55 shots being scored on 36 ends shows just how tight a game it was.
The team were pleased with their performance against a star studded Clevedon side and came away with their heads held high.

Frome Park beat Shepton Mallet on Wednesday evening in the Mens Mid Somerset League 78 to 25 winning on all three rinks.

Very friendly game. Frome Park won on 3 rinks, but Shepton Mallet had best overall score, (71-79). Result 6-6.
