A terrifying statistic, but did you know UK Universities are using NDA’s (Non-Disclosure Agreements) to prevent victims of sexual assault speaking out?

One third of Universities have signed a pledge backed by the Department of Education to end the use of NDA’s, which is great news! However the fact that two thirds have yet to do so is deeply disturbing 😠

At the time of writing University of Essex have NOT signed the pledge

So the name is… BABE WSD, which stands for Bad Ass Bitch Empowered, Women’s Self Defence.

Yay well done Phoebe, for a woman’s self defence class you’ve taken two of the most misogynistic b-words and offended your target audience before you’ve even started! However let me explain why. Lets take the word babe, one of the most cringe words that can come out of a strangers mouth (urgh!) and make it into a positive acronym.

Bad Ass Bitch Empowered. And boom, she dropped the ‘B’ word! Isn’t it time we stopped seeing bitch as a negative word and take the power away from the men (and women for that matter) who use it as a derogatory term for any non-submissive woman? I’ve been called a bitch plenty of times and I wear that badge with pride, take it as a compliment, not an insult!

A bitch is a female dog, and who doesn’t love dogs? Beautiful gentle loyal creatures. A female dog can give birth to 8 babies at a time, feed them, clean them, discipline them and keep them safe and warm ALONE. That is one matriarchal feat that as women we surely have to admire! That there is a female role model, not an insult!

Then there’s the Bad Ass part. Well that’s kind of a no brainer - who doesn’t want to be Bad Ass!

I hope you like the name, and if not I hope you learn to like it in the future, or even just tolerate it, and I hope to see you soon !
