TBikes

TBikes TBikes - Chainless bikes with patented LinkDrive technology.

After being stung a few times for a new chain and stuff, who hasn't thought “there must be something better”?…But after some determined experimentation with a rusty old mountain bike, I realised there was lots more to be had than just ditching the chain – something better to pedal with new design freedoms, and no need to tuck your trousers into your socks! Great for a zero maintenance commuting bi

ke - folding if you want - or an MTB that loves to climb and doesn't care about the mud and grit, so don’t keep going round in circles! LinkDrive uses a specific patented geometry of links to connect the pedals to cranks on the rear hub. The geometry ensures a smooth, forward biased action, where the downward stroke of one pedal starts before the lowest point of the other. This, combined with the near to vertical travel of the pedals maintains torque production for the complete cycle – great for tough climbs on an MTB and makes the most of the elegant simplicity of a single speed. Pedals are placed beneath the rider’s centre of gravity when in the saddle for increased pedal force minimising tiring out of the saddle pedalling. Benefits include :

- Powerful pedalling action Great for toe clips /SPDs or flats
- Minimal maintenance with all joints, bearings and gears sealed
-No need for cycle clips (or tucking your trousers in your socks!)
-Road bikes, Folding bikes, MTB hard tail and full suspension, single speed and multi speed hubs in development.

Hello all! Just checking in again after a long break due to family / work / covid etc. Not managed to properly progress development just yet but we have been riding the TBikes in anger over the last few months and now up to around 4000 miles between the 3 mountain bikes (probably double that if you consider the milage on the folders and hybrid versions), no issues to note, no chains, cassettes, derailler's to wear out. It just works every time.

The folders are probably where we will first concentrate on as the "banana drive" lends itself so well to this format (commuters hate mucky legs!) but as a mountain biker I have plans for a 29er trail bike.

27.5" "hard-ish core" hardtail version (green one) is great (based on similar geo to the absolutely fantastic Cotic BFE) but keen to explore a more xc orientated design with higher gearing (hence the 29er).

What do you think we should do?

Cheers!

Here is a pic of me on the TBike taken by Steve B from MBUK mag In the UK. I have put over 1500 miles on this bike now and still going strong! Not broken it yet ha ;) FEA and kinematic modeling tools seem to be working! Hope everyone is doing well..... Love questions and debate so shoot away! Happy trails...

Hi everyone... Been a rough year for all and not too much has happened, apologies for the radio silence and thanks so much for all the great discussion! TBike is still going strong... Lots of miles round my local trails keeping me sane. Hope you are all doing OK and hopefully with have some more exciting news soon!

A few people have asked about pedal options.... Well the TBike runs standard pedal threads so you can run clips (as I do) or flats.

I flick between the two... But for the TBike "bananna drive" motion clips work very well and allow you to pull up to balance out torque transfer through the crank drive system.

Also there is no limit on how long the dropper needs to be - one of the great things about the frame design is you can run any length dropper you want!

Another long ride on the TBike round my local red graded trails. Taking a bit of a battering but holding up strong (as expected). New EN24 crank plates are much stronger than the original (2.5 times stronger than the original laser cut plates according to the analysis)

Planning some load testing on the welds shortly to see if our calcs are correct (which I am sure they are he he)

Hope everyone is doing OK and happy trails!

Interesting ride yesterday on the TBike. Met a nice chap riding one of these.... We love quirky frame designs (obviously!).

Anyone else have any weird frame designs to share with us?

Happy trails!

Hi everyone sorry again for the silence... We have been busy putting lots of miles on the latest TBike. Between the three new 27.5" mtb's we are up to almost 1k miles and smiles. Few little tweaks needed to the rear linkage to stiffen it up (now has EN24 water jet cut cam plates). We have enough riding on them now to be confident in the single top tube and stiffness of the design.

We plan to be at bespoked 2021 so come and have a look. Things are calming down with stupid virus so picking up the pace now on exploring production options again... We are still going for frame and hub only (extending to wheelset) to maximise personal preference as everyone wants a different build. Frame will take a 130mm fork (new design will take a 150mm).

Hope everyone is well and happy trails :)

A few people have asked if there are any replacement parts available. The only thing you may need apart from standard bearings (like any bike!) are new crank arm couplers. These are designed to be replaceable if you whack the arms on anything (mainly if you fall off and pedal arms take a large side load) ....very simple to replace, two bolts to undo.....replace it and ride.
