Wight Rocking Rollers made a little bit of Roller Derby History yesterday! 🛼✨

After forming as the 1st Roller Derby Team on the Isle of Wight only 8 months ago, we played our 1st Scrim!! A huge thank you to all of our neighbouring leagues who came across the water 🌊 to help us out!

Another very busy week for the WRR crew! 🛼🧡🖤

1) Monday our very own Jenuine Threat 🔥 coached the training sesh…thank you .co_x !

2) Slaughtermelon 🍉 and T-Bex 🦖got involved with some scrim style action in a new drill we learnt from Dadidas 🛼

3) Another dance training with Lil Dipper 🐬 and we threw a few shapes with some fancy footwork 🕺💃🪩

4) TT 🌪️got involved with some training with DRG over the weekend ⚡️

5) We had a brilliant sesh on Friday run by Buns of Anarchy, Melemental and Z - thank you for coming over to train us! 🏝️

6) Jenuine Threat 🔥Short Round ⚡️and Lil Dipper 🐬 ran the Sunday sesh and it was great fun!

Less than two weeks to go until our first Island scrim on the 24th!🤘✨

🖤🧡 What a week we have had! 🧡🖤

Here are a few highlights from our week:

1) TT, Hetty Thump and Grumpy Grizzly took part in a scrim with the Wenches 🛼👏 it was Griz’s first scrim and we are super proud of him!

2) We had a great Friday night training sesh as Dadidas joined us as a guest coach 🛼🙌

3) Lil Dipper did a ‘fancy footwork’ dance sesh which was a lot of fun and now a staple for weekly training sessions 🪩💃

4) TT went to the Wenches’ birthday party and came away with lots of awards (which are all very well deserved!)⭐️

5) Our very busy week was topped off with a cracking team night out🍻 (ft. Tommy Bruiser looking ‘shady’ 😎)
We won’t add the karaoke highlights…for now 😆🎶🎤

📣We need your help!! 📣The Portsmouth Roller Wenches are looking for a new space to call home🏡. Unfortunately, our current training venue doesn’t have consistent availability for our ever growing league. Losing this venue puts the future of our league at risk, and means less time for us to learn and get stronger together as a team.

And so, we need your help; we are looking for local venues close to transport links such as:
- schools
- Indoor sports facilities
- Warehouse style spaces
- Any open floor space that could support practices and home bouts
The minimum size space needed for us to train and host games is 26x16 meters and against common misconceptions, our skates will not damage floor surfaces or leave any marks.
If you have a lead, an idea or suggestion for a venue we would be grateful for your help. 💙

This league is more than just a sport, it’s a family of people who share common values: championing women in sport, body positivity and creating a safe space for LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent people.
