⚽️August Review⚽️
August is always the most difficult month in the West Lancs league, nearly 1/3 of your games are played during this time. Holidays, injuries from bone dry pitches and over playing, coupled with late squad additions means it’s been a bit of an up and down month. We’ve had some great team performances, some great wins and some baffling performances and upsetting losses. With us sharing the facility with Freckleton CC we tend to play a lot of away games too, only having had 2 home games this month.
There have been some great individual performances with Tom Kelsey sitting 3rd in the divisions top scorers averaging over a goal a game, 8 in 6! James Jemson the engine in the centre of the park doesn’t look like slowing down and was rightly awarded POTM for playing every minute of our 7 games so far! Dan Scarlett, Ryan Hamasalh and James McCulloch have added some much needed experience, whilst young players such as Dan T, Tyrell and Jamie Jackson have progressed and developed well after a strong pre-season.
The Groundhop match on Friday night was a joy to be a part of, we greatly appreciate being involved in events like this and fingers crossed we can again in some capacity next season! Thank you to all who have spent countless hours putting it all together! A big thank you to Glen Martland for jumping in the dugout with me, both for this game and earlier in the season when I was on a family holiday, I think he has a better win % than me!!
We are looking forward to both cup matches in September, Langho and Chipping will be great challenges for the lads and we want to progress as far as we can in both competitions, but after the starts that both teams have had, they won’t be easy games!
Going forward we will be looking for consistency and trying to improve week on week. We are in a much better position in terms of availability this year being ably supported by James and Harry with the newly reformed Reserve team. It’s on me now to make sure we improve week on week both in training and on match days!
