Chris and Jem are committee, coxes and crew in our little club.

Headlining on Saturday evening at the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival and raising funds for the RNLI.

What a weekend we have had! Rowing, Singing, Drinking, Rowing again. Missed the guys who couldn’t make it. Next time !

Day 2 of the South Coast ACRC tour, Devoran Regatta.

So nice to get an invite to this tiny and very special regatta.

What a beautiful place, and thrilled to be able to help Harbour Rowing Club, Boscastle out with a boat for their junior team.

I’m not sure it’s a record but it can’t be far off, but having 5 ladies from the same family in one race? Pretty special. Four sisters and a daughter.

Really emotional rowing and 4th in their heat of 12.

Falmouth Regatta. Fantastic weather, amazing location, perfect conditions.

Add into that the Falmouth Shanty Festival equals the best weekend.

It’s been exactly a year since we officially renamed the gig ‘Will-to-Win’ with her new name Firefly in a ceremony off the RNLI beach.

Firefly, named after the channel marker, denoting the position of the Firefly Rock and the extent of the deep water channel of the King Road running towards Portbury and Avonmouth.

Firefly is no spring chicken, she’s a 2012 Hunkin built wooden boat. But she’s light, and lovely to row. Her colours and her name were chosen by the entire club through numerous votes.
The final white with navy and an orange rubbing strake are a salute to our local lifeboat crew who are also members of the club.
The font we used for her name is taken from one of the small ships, called Firefly, involved in the evacuation from Dunkirk. The owner of which we spoke to directly to identify the font.
In this year we have welcomed new members, seasoned rowers and entire novices, we even have our own man of the cloth in the crew.

So here’s to many more years in our lovely boat. Next stop Falmouth and the Shanty Festival . What’s not to love!

Bristol Harbour Sprints today courtesy of Clevedon Coastal. Rowing smaller 4 oared Celtic boats was a novelty but having got the hang of it, the men managed a solid First Place Trophy plus another for Fastest Time. Our lovely Vets ladies were pipped to the post coming in second by two seconds.
A brilliant day. Well organised Scott and his merry men.

Car park camping at the APPLEDORE PILOT GIG CLUB SuperVets Champs. Weather was perfect, hosts were great, cheese was top drawer and apart from a minor medical blip, the crews did good.
2nd in the plate for the ladies and the boys 6th in the cup. And those club labradors weren’t bad either 🐕
