Forton Bowling Club

Forton Bowling Club Forton Bowling Club is a small, friendly Crown Green Bowling club located on School Lane in Forton, Lancashire.

The Forton Bowling Green was opened in September 1989, running friendlies and social crown green bowls games until 1994 when we joined the Over Wyre & District Tuesday afternoon Ladies League. Further League enrolments followed subsequently and the club has been active in a variety of leagues and competitions ever since. There have also been a number of improvements and additions to the facilities

over the years, many of them with the assistance of willing members. In 2017 a new activity was introduce - social afternoons with a variety of indoor games and refreshments every 1st and 3rd Wednesday during winter. Forton Bowling Club is an open and welcoming Club which has always encouraged bowlers of all ages and abilities. This tradition is still at the centre of this friendly club and the Club intends to continue to thrive in the years to come.

The Crown Green Bowling season is well under way. Matches at HOME this week are:

18th May, 13.30 - Over Wyre Vets League - Forton playing Singleton 'B'.

19th May, 13.30 - Over Wyre Ladies League - Forton playing Woodplumpton 'B'.

19th May, 19.30 - Over Wyre League - Forton playing Goose Green 'B'.

20th May, 19.15 - Woodplumpton League - Forton playing St. Michaels.

The season has started and the green and its surrounds are looking very good.

Coming Up:

OPENING SCRAMBLE - Sunday April 12th, 1 pm start. The first social bowling event of the new season. Usual refreshments on the day and if you like cake then bring one along.

FIRST FRIDAY SCRAMBLE - 24th April, start time 7 pm. This is SOCIAL BOWLING, usual refreshments and if you feel inspired bring along cake or traybake.

BOWLS HAVE A GO AFTERNOON - Sunday 26th April at 2 pm. New to the area and would like to have a go at crown green bowling - come along. There will be a small group of experienced players at the green to introduce you to bowling. No equipment needed, just sturdy footwear.

Forton Bowling Green is on School Lane with ample parking by the green and pavillion.

Today's Get The Green Ready Day is cancelled. We are getting together THIS FRIDAY (3rd April) from 10.30 (dependent on the weather) to clean the green gutters, gardening/weeding, tidying the car park, etc. Come along if you have an hour, bring tools with you and bring some April sunshine.

The new season is here. Lots of work has been done to the green and its surrounds and it is open for practice. The first match on the green is Weds 1st April - Forton V Garstang B (Woodplumpton League). Do come along, your support is always appreciated.

Key dates for March/April:

GREEN GET READY DAY - Sunday March 29th, 10 - 4. Bring your own tools and any contribution of time is greatly appreciated.

The bowling season is not far away now and there are Cup matches in March but practice needs to be put on hold. IMPORTANT NOTICE - the green is CLOSED until at least Monday 9th March having had lawn sand applied.
