Manager Gerry Ward gives his thoughts on this afternoons cup defeat away to EKYM:

β€˜We went into today’s cup tie with a patched-up team, with Connor Phairs struggling on arrival and Nicki Paterson returning from injury, so we knew from the outset it was going to be a tough task.

Unfortunately, the injuries continued during the game. Goalkeeper Craig Murdoch had to come off with what looked like a knee injury, which we hope isn’t serious, while Connor Neilson also had to leave the pitch with what looks like a hamstring injury.

The players gave everything and, unfortunately, switched off for a few minutes towards the end of the first half and allowed EKYM to equalise, going into the break at 1-1.

In the second half, we missed a penalty and created enough chances to win several football matches, but it just wasn’t to be today.

With two minutes remaining, Tiger Lawson thought he had taken us through to penalties, only for the goal to be ruled out for reasons only the official can explain. Then, right at the death, Kyle Miller produced a magnificent point-blank save from Kyle Lafferty to keep the game level.

Overall, it was a fantastic cup tie with two good teams playing good football and both sides creating chances. On another day, we could have taken the win, but credit to EKYM for their performance.

I’d like to wish all the EKYM players, coaching staff and officials all the very best for the rest of the season, and a massive thank you for the hospitality after the match.

Proud of the effort from our boys today, particularly given the circumstances and the number of players carrying injuries. We gave everything and unfortunately just couldn’t find that winning moment.’
