Rain on an August bank holiday weekend, who would have thought it.

Cameron was out on Ben Nevis today, guiding our Open Group walk. James and Louis managed to make a successful trip up and over the In Pinn on Skye, and I have been out with Rob and Nic on the bikes.

I think the images speak for the conditions. Rob, Nic and I stuck to the hard pack trails of the West Highland Way and the Cour loop but with so much water having fallen over the last week, even if it want actually raining, the trails were rivers.

Hi folks! It's Dig Day time!

This months dig will be at Glen Loy Strone Side where the aim is to make the trails accessible, now that forestry tree clearing has finished. After Storm Arwin, Strone Side had a lot of windfall and the trails were closed to the public. Forestry have finished clearing the falling trees on the fire road, meaning it's time to put the work in to reopen a prime biking location.

The aim of this dig is to remove debris, lower branches, and clearing trail corridors to reduce the risk of injury to riders after the windfall. This is key as the damage from Storm Arwin has left the trails unridden and overgrown, and we want to allow rider access once again.

The dig will start at 10am and finish at 2pm, meeting at Strone carpark. Parking is very limited here so park sensibly, not on the verges. We advise car sharing and biking out if possible. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult

We look forward to seeing you all there to reopen some of the best trails in Lochaber!

Time to give the trails a bit of tlc after the winter months.

The first Dig of 2023! This dig will be on Lockdown in Torlundy and we will be focusing on some winter maintenance to restore this trail back to its original glory.
The aim is to do lots of drainage, to use rockwork to keep the soggiest areas as dry as they can stay, and to reroute one section of trail to stop the rain running down the trail like a river. This will get the trail running good again, and will keep everyone safe while riding.

The session will start at 10 am and run until about 2pm, meeting at North Face carpark. You can park in North Face or by the traffic lights in Torlundy if the carpark is very busy. Please park responsibly with space for others and with enough room for emergency vehicle access. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

I've spent the last two days riding with Benoit who is a pretty experienced rider and can climb like a beast.

A late start on day one due to a mechanical meant we decided to keep it short and did a quick loop of the classic Ciaran path above Kinlochleven and still had time to grab a quick loop of a section of the West Highland Way.

Yesterday we took advantage of the great forecast and rode the Sgor Gaoith loop. Amazing high-level riding on some superb trails. Benoit still had more miles in his legs so we hit a couple of trails on the other side of the valley from Wolftrax on our way back West.

A massive shout out to the team that got Benoit up and running on the first morning in a ridiculously quick time. Cheers team!

Some trail closures around Leanachan Forest this summer.

Leanachan Forest trails update.

Felling operations are commencing from today (June 10) around the Mackenzie Road area for the summer (Weekdays only). To allow the works to happen safely, some trails will be closed until the work is finished.

These closures will affect the trails that finish at the Hole in the Wall area. See picture.

Please do not ride these trails for your own safety and follow any signage and directions you may come across.

A day of guiding today with Dave in the Cairngorms. Unfortunately, the winds meant we needed to stay low but we had a great ride upto and through the Chalamain gap.

From here the descent back down and along the Laraig Ghru has some fantastic riding and it just gets better and better. Dave's rim on his rear wheel wasn't up to the job though and met it's demise as soon as we started the decent. So we limped the bike back to Aviemore, thanks to a or it would have been a long walk.

The slightly early finish meant I got to meet and old friend at Laggan. I've not ridden at Laggan since before Covid and the Black trail was as fun as always along with a quick dash down the Orange to sample the new turns and jumps.

Riding Scotland's mountains! A great descent of Creag a Mhaim in Glen Sheil today.

There is a well built stalkers track almost all the way to the summit of this Munro with some tight and techy corners but nearly all rideable.

The forecast for today was supposed to be wall to wall sunshine and not so windy. Unfortunately the cloud was down for most of the ascent and only started to clear after lunch. Not only that but it was a 'keep the wheels on the ground' kind of day.

Two Munros and some amazing riding in a beautiful place, not a bad 4 1/2 hours.
