I have a new blog article for all you trout fisherman. It was written in 2024 but kept back as too many secrets were being revealed. But I think it is time and with so much Pre G Tension I was bored at 3am this morning. Enjoy, it's a bit long but covers 40 years at Scourie.

Tales and fishing updates from the lochs of Sutherland and Wester Ross

Lack of life style photos in this blog style site. Yes we ran out of cider, left over whisky and had to buy more gin. Chicken curry was good but not as good as the lamb rogan josh. Home made chilli prawn wraps for lunch. No duck breasts so two duck legs each. Steak and chips at least 3 times. Who needs hotels 20% of the cost and so much better. Fantastic holiday😀

2nd week report starts with dry flies working much better and fish rising more with slightly better weather. As I sit here in 36 degrees it's laughable I was in my hoody last week as photo 5 testifies. Caught 65 fish after the argo ride on Achentoul estate loch. I had a 2 1/2 lb fish after the long walk MC and Peter Williams show off their 3lb and 2 3/4 fish on a similar walk of 90 minutes. The last fish is off Scourie District Angling loch from Monday about a lb but lost/ broken by a monster (4 to 6lb) and I am a broken man until I get back up in those hills. 112 fish caught, best GW 5lb 65 cm ,we had 9 blobs between us with one being a sic day off! Best fly Deer hair sedge Goddards style for me any size works up here! Cheers G, Peter and Michel
Ps apologies to the guys I spoke briefly with at Lochinver on Sunday. I was trying not to boast but last year I hardly had a fish over a lb in two weeks. That's trouting!!

To continue with more photos in a minute, I was thinking do our followers appreciate the effort? Mich and I walked two hours and fished two lochs one day this week with only 25% of the lochs fishable due to strong winds and shallow areas. We had 12 small fish from one and a 2lb from the other but saw nothing rise all day. We then walked 90 minutes back to the car desperate for cider in my case water for MC. Off for another big walk today in heavy rain it seems. But big trouts are definitely in the 2 lochs 3lb plus! More pics from 1st week

Well we have been in Sutherland for a week so far and fishing everyday. Loch Leven was the two day fishing stop on the way up. Peter had a Pike of 4lb and a trout of 1 1/2lb. It was tough with 9 other fisherman catching nothing last Friday. Forsinard Flyfishers water is our main focus these two weeks and we have had 2 fish over 5lb one at 3lb 4oz and 6 between 1 and 2lb. The new Thunderbird 2 has been used but will not stay still between casts and the Icross T1 has been heavy to carry but worth it especially for yesterday's 65 and 60cm fish. Flies deer hair sedges small, Doobry and a size 12 green mayfly. But using wets mostly. Enjoy the photos.

Tough morning clearing the Cothi mountain pool path as a working party of one. Just a few years of obstruction by a fallen tree and the brambles take over leaving no access to the best pool. Fallen tree into the first pool too big for my bow saw. Well earned ciders and roast beef dinner at the Forest Arms in Brechfa coming up.

Peter looks like he put this together in a spare moment in 2025. Short but his first attempt, I have let you down so far. Must sort out later this week. Trout very much in my thoughts but also artic char with all this Greenland coverage.
