'The River of Beauty'

The mighty River Findhorn is one of the fastest flowing rivers in Scotland and is fed by around 346 square miles of catchment. It is one of Scotland's last wild rivers stretching 62 miles from its source in the Monadhliath Mountains and eventually flowing out to sea at Moray Firth. We are the only rafting company who run trips constantly all year round on the Findhorn River.

We run a number of sections as both half and full days, tailoring trips to suit: families, corporate groups, Stag and Hen parties etc. The Full day Rafting and Cliff Jump sees the highs of Grade 5 Scottish rafting with the added adrenaline rush of cliff jumping, where the Family Rafting trip flows down a number of exciting Grade 3 rapids showing off the Findhorn's wondrous beauty. The Family Rafting section also gives you a chance to get closer to the action if you opt to take an inflatable kayak or canoe! While rafting down the Findhorn you will feel the real wilderness about the area while still being close to the coast and civilization, touching places you would never get to on foot. The Findhorn carves its way through incredible rock formations of Gneiss and Granite strata, deep gorges lined with ancient forests of pines, birch, ash and oaks; it is hard to believe you are still in Scotland! The water steeped in tannin from the highland heather moors resembles a cascade of Coca-Cola as it chuckles over the shingle beds, boulders and bedrock on its swift journey to the salty Findhorn Bay. At Ace Adventures we are committed to providing the best possible service and experience in an exciting, friendly, safe environment. Our highly trained guides are a fountain of knowledge about the river, its local history, flora and fauna. We are also mindful of other river users and work in conjunction with anglers who are also enjoying the river for its serenity and plentiful salmon. If White Water Rafting is not your thing, we also have a number of other adventure activities including Woodland Paintball, River Tubing & Cliff Jumping, Canyoning, Canoeing and even Bungee Jumping!! Pleasure to be taking the RAF on another adventure training day.

We spoke about using breathing techniques to over ride the activation of the fear circuits and keep the mind open to learning and processing the immediate environment to make clear calculated decisions.

This post is more of a statement of frustration not overly relevant to our wonderful past and future guests.

At ACE we are passionate about delivering quality experiences and exceeding customer expectations. I am convinced this is why we have been successful as a business.

One of the primary ways we ensure we can do this is to not oversell what we offer and listen with the intention hearing customer feedback.

Right now, a local B.I.D. in the guise of a Destination Marketing Organisation is in the process of ballot to secure another 5 years term having almost completed the initial 5 year term.

B.I.D are NOT fit for purpose as a DMO. The primary reason is this, not all businesses need the destination marketed. An example is, ACE provides activities which draw a lot of visitors to the area so clearly falls under tourism yet the local Elgin bowling alley which is far more of a local service which may do some tourists is forced to pay a levy. Both are activity providers. How is that fair and reasonable?

Once a B.I.D. is in play all sector chosen businesses are forced by law to pay a levy. The provider does not have to provide any tangible evidence of efficay. The billing is handled by the local council. Most of the activities of the entity end up filling the gaps that should be dealt with by local council, Visit Scotland, Government etc. Consequently the time and resources to actually market the destination falls short.

While we at ACE would love the local area to be marketed and support an entity that would do that, it has to be voluntary. Only then will the entity represent their customers, the businesses that fund them optionally.

Moray Speyside Tourism has fallen well short of the mark. They have not provided any tangible proof of effectiveness, we have dismal referral traffic and no direct bookings. By not handling the invoicing how as a business can you know and understand what it is your customers need?

It's a shambles, needs stopped and an alternative, optional service put in place.

If you are a Non-Domestic Rate Payer in Moray and eligible business now is the time to stop this Government ineffective stealth tax.
