As we move through and into the middle of June, our attentions now start to focus on the arrival of the Summer run Salmon and Grilse, moving into the River Findhorn in North East Scotland.

The weather conditions have been a little more unsettled in recent days and there have been some hefty showers and longer spells of rain falling over the River Findhorn catchment, giving river levels a much needed lift!

Over the forthcoming week, there are also some significant high tides and so given some decent water conditions, fresh salmon and grilse will be keen to move in from Findhorn Bay moving into the the lower Findhorn and upstream.

We still have fishing opportunities available for 2 - 4 rods, going through the Summer months on the River Findhorn at Altyre Estate and The Upper Home Beat at Darnaway.

River levels started at a respectable 8" on the Forres gauge for W/C April 20th and my two guests enjoyed a great 3 days of spring salmon fishing at Altyre Estate, Lower Beat on the River Findhorn with fish up to around 13 lbs caught and released.

Unfortunately, weather conditions changed rapidly, with high pressure in charge and the onset of our first mini heat wave of the season arriving on Thursday! River levels started falling away and the overhead bright sunshine just killed the prospects of catching fish, for the last three days of the week!

Please do contact us as always at www.speycaster.net for further information and availability going through the rest of the season at either Altyre Estate or Upper Home Beat, Darnaway on the River Findhorn.

The W/C April 13th started off with river levels running at just under 2' on the Forres gauge, River Findhorn. We started seeing some good runs of MSW Spring salmon coming into the Altyre Estate beats, throughout most of the week.
Our guests enjoyed some really great salmon fishing sport, but unfortunately there were rather quite a number of long distance releases, which was a little frustrating!
One of the highlight's of the week was on Monday, with our largest Spring salmon of the season so far, a cracking big fish of over 20 lbs plus, caught from the Soldier's Hole pool on the upper beat. Another big 20 lbs plus fish was hooked and lost on Wednesday morning.

The other highlight was a cracking first ever Spring salmon caught by 13 year old Malte Fischer from Germany, who was back on the River Findhorn fishing with his Dad Jens for their third visit, later in the week. Malte also hooked and lost another bigger fish on the following morning.

As always please do contact : www.speycaster.net for information on all River Findhorn fishing and availability going through the rest of the 2026 salmon fishing season.

For W/C April 5th, our clients have enjoyed another good week of early Spring salmon fishing at Altyre Estate and The Meads of St. John at Darnaway on the River Findhorn.

River levels continued to yo-yo on the back of snow melt water and rainfall up in the River Findhorn catchment for much of the week, with high water conditions for much of the week, finally falling away a little by Friday/Saturday.

Please do contact me for information on fishing costs and availability going through the rest of the salmon fishing season at www.speycaster.net

Weather conditions on the River Findhorn at Altyre Estate, for W/C March 30th, have been somewhat challenging for our clients to say the least! We experienced strong and bitterly cold blustery winds, with a mix of rain, hail, sleet and snow thrown in! Snow melting water from the upper Findhorn catchment continued, with yo-yoing river levels throughout much of the week, making fishing conditions rather testing!
There were certainly some Spring fish running through our beats at Altyre, with a Spring fish caught and released from Palamore Island on Monday morning.

However, for much of the time, they were difficult to tempt, with several good offers and pulls, plus another fish hooked and lost in Palamore pool on Thursday!

Finally, it all came good by Saturday April 4th with two absolutely stunning double figure multi Sea Winter Spring salmon caught and released, from the Roehillock pool and the Soldier's Hole pool.

Delighted to report our first Spring salmon caught for the season from Altyre Estate on the River Findhorn for W/C March 16th. It was generally bright and sunny, with a cold windchill earlier in the week, becoming warmer later on! River levels were yo-yoing for much of the week, on the back of snow melt water and rainfall up in the Findhorn catchment.

We still have some late Spring availability at Altyre Estate and The Upper Home Beat at Darnaway on the River Findhorn, going through late May and into June. We also have openings on both of these beats for 2 - 4 rods going through the Summer months of July/August and into September.

Please contact www.speycaster.net for all salmon fishing availability this season.

There is a real sense of anticipation as the BIG day gets a little closer! February 11th 2026, heralds the opening of the new salmon fishing season on the River Findhorn and Spey in Scotland.

In recent weeks, we have seen some really significant amounts of snow falling over the Cairngorm, Grampian and Monadhliath mountain ranges, which have been building up steadily and filling into those North facing Corries, as overnight temperatures hit sub zero!

There also appears to be the prospects of more significant snowfall heading over North East Scotland in the upcoming weeks, which bodes well for all of our North East salmon rivers going through March and into April/May. All of the Scottish ski resorts, from West to East, have been enjoying some of their best skiing/snow boarding sport for several years!

It has been very heartening to note that many of the other Scottish rivers, that are already open, such as Tay, Tweed and Dee have already been enjoying some early Spring salmon success. Great news indeed!

We still have some limited early Spring salmon fishing opportunities on the River Findhorn available at Altyre Estate and the Meads of St. John at Darnaway for up to 2 rods. Looking a little further ahead we also have some late Spring salmon fishing available for 2 rods, at the stunning Upper Home Beat, Darnaway going through late May and into early August.

Please contact www.speycaster.net for further information on all availability for salmon fishing throughout the 2026 season.

Tight Lines to everyone in 2026.
