From EASTER 2023, in order to remain in the group, or to be accepted into the group, we ask that you make a yearly voluntary £5 charitable donation to RNLI (RNLI lifesavers are exempt from needing to make the donation); membership runs yearly from Easter. Attendance, and donating, at the yearly Easter Swimfest counts towards your yearly group membership fee. The donation page link is: https://www.
justgiving.com/fundraising/formbyseaswimmersrnli. Please be sure to add YOUR NAME to the donation page, and to give a public message, so we can more easily track group membership renewals. We’re introducing this because we want to continue to be sure we’ve created a community for those with similar interests, and those who are joining, are doing so as it is genuinely meaningful to them. This is a 'live' interactive group, meaning that in order to stay in the group, you must swim regularly with other group members, and post invitations to swim. Formby Sea Swimmers (FSS) welcomes members from the open water swimming community, triathlon, multi-sport. Unless otherwise stated, all swims start approx. 30 minutes before high tide (see My Tide Times app) and meet at Lifeboat road beach, under the boardwalk. What3words: https://what3words.com/palace.steps.fermented. Roughly speaking there's a 30 minute window either side of high tide when it's safe to swim. It's dangerous to swim at low tide, or on an outgoing tide. Formby has a 3 star bathing water quality rating (the highest rating) from the Environment Agency. Driving Directions: Set satnav address to: Lifeboat Road Car Park, Lifeboat Road, Formby, L37 2DD (note the postcode alone does not take you to the exact location of the car park). Car Park: Lifeboat road car park is owned by NT so members park for free. Otherwise, it’s £7.50 regardless of the length of stay. Charges apply all year (sun-up to sun-down. (dawn to dusk)) payable to self service machines that take card or cash. Alternatively, you can park for free at the kerbside on St. Luke's Church Road adjacent to St. Luke's Church. Takes around 20 minutes to walk to the beach from there. NEVER SWIM ALONE. Highly recommended you should wear:
- bright coloured swim cap
- tow-float
- safety whistle
