The worlds first 18 hole course from inception, laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1871, and later refined by James Braid.

Set in a remarkable landscape, Forfar is the best example of rig and furrow globally. A unique challenge just 20 minutes from Carnoustie. The Forfar Golf Club is a private members Club that provides both its members and visitors with an excellent golfing experience combined with great service from start to finish. The course is both beautifully presented and carefully maintained against a back drop of the Angus glens that stays true to its natural heathland setting presenting golfers of all standards with a set of unique challenges for anyone wishing a memorable days golf in Scotland. Our Clubhouse provides a relaxing and comfortable environment to enjoy the hospitality and superb catering on offer. Originally laid out by Tom Morris of St Andrews in 1871 with alterations being made in 1926 by James Braid the course design is a combination by two golfing greats with no less than 9 Open Championships between them and is of a quality that it has hosted national championships and has twice been the venue for the Scottish PGA Championship, the Scottish Boys Stroke Play and the Girls Home Internationals.

This is one of golf’s most distinctive surviving landscapes.

More than 900 years ago, Augustinian Canons associated with nearby Restenneth Priory cultivated this land, creating the ridges and furrows still visible across the course today.

In 1871, Old Tom Morris laid out Forfar as the world’s first golf course designed as an 18-hole course from inception. James Braid later refined the layout in 1926.

This ancient agricultural ground gives Forfar its rare inland links character - a course shaped first by history, then by golf.
