๐Ÿฆ† Local Wildlife Spotlight: The Feathered Residents of Forfar Loch! ๐Ÿฆข

๐Ÿ‘‰ If youโ€™ve taken a stroll of the 4km loop around Forfar Loch recently, youโ€™ve probably noticed we share the path (and the water) with some absolutely stunning neighbours. Whether youโ€™re a keen birdwatcher or just out for a dog walk or a jog, our local patch is teeming with birdlife right now.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Next time you're out, keep your eyes peeled for these regulars:

โœจ The Elegant Mute Swans: Unmistakable and regal, watching them glide across the calm morning water never gets old.
๐Ÿฆ† Our Quirky Ducks: From familiar Mallards to diving Tufted Ducks and great crested grebes popping under the surface, there's always a bit of drama happening in the shallows.
๐Ÿชต The Patient Grey Heron: Look closely near the reedbeds and wooded shorelines! They look like living statues, perfectly still, waiting for the perfect moment to strike for a fish.
Bonus Summer Spots: If you are incredibly lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of an Osprey sweeping in to fish during the warmer months! ๐Ÿฆ…

๐Ÿ‘‰Pictures attached were taken from the loch last night ๐Ÿ‘ˆ

๐Ÿ“ธ Over to you, Forfar! Who else loves a lap around the loch? Drop your best wildlife photos or recent sightings in the comments below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

What a fantastic weekend!

Our rowers enjoyed a fab regatta organised by Forfar Sailing & Watersports Club, the sailors were blessed with perfect weather conditions for Squib training, and to top it all off, our summer solstice celebration down at the waterfront was the perfect way to spend a beautiful summer night ๐Ÿฉต

โ–ถ๏ธ A massive thank you to everyone who joined us this past Saturday, June 20th, for the Forfar Loch Fun Regatta! The weather was on our side, the water was buzzing, and the community spirit was absolutely unmatched. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ™Œ

โ–ถ๏ธ It was a brilliant, fun-filled day of racing, laughs, and fantastic camaraderie. Whether you were pulling an oar, cheering from the banks, or helping out behind the scenes, you made it a midsummer Saturday to remember!.

โ–ถ๏ธ ๐Ÿค A Huge Thanks to Our Visiting Clubs!
An event like this is nothing without the incredible coastal rowing community. A massive shoutout and thank you to all the clubs who traveled to compete and support us:

Broughty Ferry Boating
Dundee Sailing and Rowing Club
Perth UK Sailing & Coastal Rowing
Catterline Coastal Rowing Club
Montrose Coastal Rowing

โ–ถ๏ธ Thank you for bringing your great sportsmanship, your energy, and some seriously competitive (but fun!) racing to Forfar Loch. It was great to catch up with old friends and welcome new ones to our home water! ๐Ÿ›ถโœจ

โ–ถ๏ธ ๐Ÿ† Celebrating the Day
From the nail-biting finishes every single crew left it all out on the water. Congratulations to all the category winners, and a huge round of applause to our volunteers and safety boat crews who kept everything running smoothly and safely all day.

๐Ÿšฃโ€โ™‚๏ธ WHAT A DAY ON FORFAR LOCH! ๐Ÿšฃโ€โ™‚๏ธ

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us for our Midsummer Fun Regatta today! We had a spectacular turnout of 75 people and 5 boats, and the atmosphere on and off the water was absolutely brilliant.
A huge shoutout to all our visiting clubsโ€” As always it was fantastic to see so many friendly faces making it such a busy, vibrant day.
Hereโ€™s how the action unfolded across our three events:

Dundee Sailing and Rowing Club
Broughty Ferry Boating
Perth UK Sailing & Coastal Rowing
Catterline Coastal Rowing Club
Montrose Coastal Rowing

๐Ÿงฉ The Activity & Puzzle Row
Two waves of mind and muscle saw 10 boats competing. In the true spirit of the regatta, the winners were the crew aboard Eiderโ€”a fantastic mixed crew made up of rowers from all the participating visiting clubs! ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿšฉ Forfarโ€™s Famous T-Flag Races
Our signature head-to-head sprint! 2 boats went toe-to-toe through a custom course, collecting and delivering flags on the fly. After 5 thrilling races, Broughty took the crown with some superb handling in their own boat!

๐Ÿฉ The 2k Time-Trial (With a Twist!)
5 boats setting off at 1-minute intervals for a full lap of the lochโ€”complete with a mandatory "donut" turn to test the coxes! boats competed across 3 races, with the big win going to the crew closest to the average time. Broughty Ferry struck again, clinching the victory with some incredibly precise pacing! ๐Ÿ†
A huge well done to every single rower, and a massive thank you to everyone who came along, helped out behind the scenes, and contributed to a fantastic day.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Look ๐Ÿ‘€ out for more pictures to come! ๐Ÿ˜€

๐ŸŽฃ๐Ÿšฃโ›ต๏ธ A BUSY SUNDAY! ๐Ÿšฃโ€โ™‚๏ธโ›ต๐ŸŽฃ

โ–ถ๏ธ Saturday and Sunday saw our Coxswain Course in full swing, with participants developing their skills via the classroom (clubhouse) on Saturday afternoon and in practise on the loch on Sunday, gaining valuable experience on the water. It was great to see so much enthusiasm and commitment throughout the course.

๐Ÿ‘‰ It was great to have members from Montrose Coastal Rowing along to join us on the course too!.

๐Ÿ‘‰ A special thanks goes to Anne and Liz that run the course on behalf of Scottish Coastal Rowing Association - SCRA, their insight, knowledge, experience and tips are invaluable! ๐Ÿ˜€

โ–ถ๏ธ The loch was buzzing with activity on Sunday, making for a busy and exciting day Alongside our course participants, the water was shared with local fishermen, paddle boarders enjoying the sunshine, a sculler gliding across the loch and our sailors out for their Sunday afternoon session โ›ต๏ธโ›ต๏ธ๐Ÿ˜€
It's always wonderful to see so many different water users enjoying everything Forfar Loch has to offer.
