Goalscorer: Scott Thomson 20' 30' โšฝ๏ธโšฝ๏ธ

Forfar Athletic were humbled on Saturday afternoon against Carnoustie just when they finally looked oncourse to altering their current run of form when leading at half time.

The Loons opened the scoring on the 20th minute after a moment of excellence from striker Scott Thomson, who dummied a shot to send the goalkeeper to the floor before lifting the ball over his opponent and chipping the ball into the top left corner. Signature stuff from Thomson to give the Loons the lead! ๐Ÿฅถ

10 minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead. Thomson latched onto a through ball to face the keeper once again and guided the ball around the keeper and into the far corner. Another superb finish from Thomson, his 9th of the season.

Carnoustie managed to get a goal back on the brink of half time, seconds before the referee was due to blow his whistle. The hosts sent in a free kick which Forfar failed to clear and surely enough a red shirt in the box pounced at the opportunity and finished beyond goalkeeper Gavin Dunn.

โณHT: Carnoustie 1-2 Forfar Athletic โณ

The second half was all about Carnoustie as they went on to overhaul the score deficit to secure the 3 points.

The home side equalised from a tidy passage of play, the ball cut back from the byline dummied from the first runner to catch the Forfar defence offguard to lay off the Carnoustie forward who made no mistake with the finish, placing it into the bottom corner.

The comeback was complete in unique fashion. The delivery from a corner kick curled all the way past everyone, destined for the side netting by the far post. Defender Jack Neave attempted to clear the ball on the line and managed to meet the ball on the volley however the volley cannoned off the crossbar and landed into the net anyway. A hard stroke of luck against the Loons, summing up Forfar's afternoon.

The game was put to bed with a stunning volley from 25 yards to finish the scoring and conclude all major action of the match.

๐Ÿ‘‘- Man of the Match is awarded to Matty Smith who performed at Centre Back after a lengthy spell without featuring for the team. Well done Matty! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

WE ARE ๐Ÿ”™

Tomorrow afternoon the Loons are back in action after a 2 week absence as we travel away to Carnoustie Panmure YM in a Scotia Drainage Solutions Division One league match! ๐Ÿ›ฃ

We'd like to thank FACFC Alliance for sacrificing their fixture last week to field their players for our fixture last weekend against Newport AFC. Despite facing 4 red cards they were only bested by a single goal in a 2-1 defeat with Marshall Grey forcing himself onto the scoreesheet with a long range strike that looped over the oppisition goalkeeper. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Kick Off is scheduled for 2PM and as always all support is both welcome and appreciated ๐Ÿซ‚โšฝ๏ธ

It was an afternoon of malaise in Brechin today with the hosts securing victory after a poor quality game of football.

The Loons applied pressure onto the hosts midway through the first half and produced the first clear cut chance of the game in the 26th minute, Stuart Thomson's effort from 12 yards out flew over the crossbar.

Brechin opened the scoring in the 36th minute, Forfar failed to clear a corner kick and with the ball kept in the mixer it eventually found the head of a Brechin player who nodded past Gavin Dunn in the goal to give the hosts the lead.

โณHT: Brechin City 1-0 Forfar Athleticโณ

The match was starving for action and didn't see the next major highlight until the 65th minute, Brechin's left winger ran to the byline before cutting it back to the edge of the box for their midfielder who slotted the ball home from 18 yards into the bottom left corner.

Forfar's best opportunity came in the 71st minute, Owen Wilson forced a wonder save out of the Brechin goalkeeper with his effort, Cammy Douglas failed to convert with the follow up as his rebound went over the bar.

An off day for the Loons who will look to find their groove on another match day.

๐Ÿ‘‘ - Man of the Match goes to Lewis Davison who once again proves to be a stand out in the Forfar midfield. Well done Lewis ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

It was a disappointing afternoon yesterday as Invergowrie established themselves as the winners in the Fairfield Cup clash.

Invergowrie took the lead in the 14th minute. A long pass played down the right flank was held up well at the byline from their number 6 who then played the ball into the path of their winger who had the rub of the green as the ball unfortunately took a rikochet off of Adam Hoggan in his efforts to hault the advancing attack only for the ball to land into the path of the Invergowrie forward who made no mistake in finishing past goalkeeper Gavin Dunn into the bottom left corner to open the scoring. 1-0. โšฝ๏ธ

After a spell of dominance from the home side, Forfar produced their first chance of the match in the 33rd minute. Scott Thomson drifted into the right hand channel before playing Ben Soave through on goal but the opposition keeper did very well to stop Soave's shot from finding the back of the net.

Soave was denied from scoring again just minutes later, Ewan Fowlie picked out Soave in the final third who excellently controlled the ball before pulling the trigger only for the in-form goalkeeper to pull off a great save in his bottom left corner.

Invergowrie doubled their lead on the brink of half time. Invergowrie's number 6 found himself with a lot of time from long range and smashed the ball on the bounce to loop over the head of Dunn and in off the post, a fantastic goal from the midfielder to complete the scoring in the match. 2-0 โšฝ๏ธ

โณHT: Invergowrie 2-0 Forfar Athleticโณ

The second half saw very little significant action.

The Loons were unlucky not to have pulled a goal back in the last minute of the game. The ball fell to Chris Bell in the box who smashed it against the underside of the crossbar before it bounced on the goaline and stayed out of the goal.

A frustrating afternoon as the Loons struggled to find their groove on the pitch with no fortune falling in their favour and Invergowrie proving themselves to be tough oppisition to face once again.

๐Ÿ‘‘- Man of the Match is awarded to Chris Bell who's hard work ethic and graft in midfield once again doesn't go unnoticed and was very unfortunate to have not found a goal that his performance merited. Well Done Chris ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

It was a 10 goal thriller this afternoon in Newport as both sides claimed a point apiece in what can only be described as a roller coaster of a match! ๐ŸŽข ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Forfar almost took the lead within the opening minutes of the match, Josh Richardson and Ben Soave co-operated some fine link up play together down the right hand side, Richardson supplied the delivery and Lewis Davison forced in the finish only for the goal to be dissallowed with Davison deemed to be offside. ๐Ÿšฉ

Shortly after in the 13th minute Logan Hogg found himself sprinting towards goal from the left flank, the Newport keeper rushed off his line to perform a great save in the one on one scenario to deny Hogg from opening the scoring. ๐Ÿšซ

The referee was called to action and decided to present a yellow card to a Newport player for a wreckless challenge, with the challenge coming from behind and the studs up in a dangerous position the home side could count their lucky stars that they weren't reduced to 10 men. ๐ŸŸก

It was the hosts turn to test Forfar as they looked favourable to score in a phase of play that saw both forwards have a chance to find the back of the net only to be denied from Gavin Dunn who made his first appearance as a goalkeeper for the Loons, his superb double save keeping the score level and propelling for what came in the next phase of play... ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Soave received the ball from a long throw down the byline before sending the ball goalward from a crossing position, the Newport keeper met the effort with a finger tape save onto the post but in vain as to his dismay Richardson pounced on the opportunity and tapped the ball home to put Forfar into the lead. 0-1 โšฝ๏ธ

The lead wasn't to last as five minutes later the hosts were level, a corner kick was floated to the back post were the ball found the net courtesy of a free header. 1-1. โšฝ๏ธ

In the 33rd minute Newport threw another suckerpunch at the Loons when they took the lead. Their forwards linked up sublimely with one sending the other through on goal with a backheel pass trickling through the backline and his teammate making no mistake to convert the chance into the bottom corner. 2-1. โšฝ๏ธ

Forfar almost had an immediate reaction of their own missing 2 great chances on the back of conceding. Soave failing to convert the ball goalward with the goalkeeper off his line and Richardson managing to lift the ball over the goalkeeper only to see it roll away from the target.

Dunn rised to the call of duty to deny the oppisition from doubling their lead, reaching to his bottom right corner to save a fierce strike that would've otherwise nestled into the net. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

The half ended with a minute of madness on both ends of the pitch. The referee awarding an indirect free kick to Newport causing mass confusion as to whether a penalty was awarded or not with no one on either side being able to grasp at the rational behind the decision making, assuming there was any at all. โ“

The result saw Forfar catch their oppisition on the break, Richardson entering the final third and cutting in from the left hand side and sent the ball sailing goalwards only to be denied an equaliser from an excellent save from the keeper. The save rebounded into the path of Davison who was fouled from an outstanding block from a Newport defender.

โณ HT: Newport 2-1 Forfar Athletic โณ

10 minutes into the second half and there was a 4th goal in the game. Despite calls for offside the Newport winger was played into the right channel but kept his composure and did well to finish past Dunn and find the bottom left corner. 3-1. โšฝ๏ธ

The Loons had a mountain to climb but were up to the task and pulled a goal back on the 61st minute. Chris Bell and Davison linked up really well before Davison played a great ball through for striker Scott Thomson, who also kept his composure and calmly struck the ball into the bottom corner. 3-2. โšฝ๏ธ

2 minutes later and Forfar were on level terms! Bell once again involved in the build up, his cross found Thomson who then utilised a tidy display of footwork to keep the ball under pressure from the Newport defence before slotting the ball into the bottom left corner. 2 very well worked goals in just 2 minutes. 3-3. โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

Whilst Richardson and Thomson were finding success infront of goal, Hogg was the one to be left frustrated as once again he saw his effort well saved from the goalkeeper. Doing ever so well to latch onto a poor goalkick before taking the ball into thorough control and pulling the trigger.

However once again the hosts capitalised on Forfar's wasteful chances and were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute. Dispatched into the top corner leaving Dunn no chance of keeping the score level. 4-3. โšฝ๏ธ

Jack Neave was shifted from his ordinary full position to move further up the park as a winger and the decision proved to be critical to secure a result in the match. Neave weighted a superb ball through for Thomson to send him through on goal, the goalkeeper was in full sprint to clash into the ball and deny Thomson his hattrick but simply stood no chance as his pressure proved to be ineffective. Thomson skipped past the goalie and scored into an open net to secure his hattrick and his 7th goal of the season. Cool, Composed, Class. 4-4. โšฝ๏ธ

Frustratingly it was another set piece that proved to be Forfar's undoing. A corner kick was floated into the Forfar box and although the first header was won by a sky blue shirt, the second header was won by an unchallenged Newport player and hammered into the back of the net. 5-4. โšฝ๏ธ

A brave display from the Loons didn't deserve to come out empty handed and fortunately it didn't, as fortune favours the brave, the 88th minute saw the goal of the game. Newports keeper launched a goalkick 35 yards away from goal only to meet a thunderous volley from Neave, with the ball almost bursting the back of the net after dipping over the keeper. In the blink of an eye the Loons had equalised and Neave was drowning in a sea of blue shirts piling on top of him. A dramatic finish to a very tough and entertaining game. 5-5! โšฝ๏ธโšก๐ŸŽญ

It's a bag of mixed emotions as on one hand more wasted opportunities and set piece defending come back to bite Forfar to prevent a full 3 points for the group stage and on the other the Loons showed great character in a never say die attitude that saw them consistently react to every obstacle they had to face and refused to leave without something to show for it.

๐Ÿ‘‘- Man of the Match is a tie! An excellent display from both Gavin Dunn in the sticks and hattrick hero Scott Thomson! 2 different ends of the park but both inspiring a result for Forfar to prevent from falling into the clutches of defeat. Very well done Gavin and Scott! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’™
