Life with an anxious dog isn’t easy.

You replace a clothes horse that’s falling apart with one that looks almost identical.

Your dog is worried about the brand-new item that has suddenly appeared in their home.

A different object. A new sound. An unfamiliar sight.

Some dogs thrive in that environment - others find it overwhelming, distracting, or just too much to take in.

That’s where 1:1 training makes all the difference.

I’ve been a little quiet on here lately but still working away behind the scenes!

Taking some time to work on ourselves as well as my lovely clients dogs.

With temperatures expected to rise over the next week or so, I just wanted to give clients a quick heads-up that some sessions may need to be postponed or rearranged if the heat becomes too extreme.

The safety and wellbeing of the dogs always comes first, and during very hot weather it simply isn’t safe or comfortable for them to be exercising outdoors as normal.

I’ll keep everyone updated as the forecast develops and will contact affected clients directly if any changes are needed. Thank you as always for your understanding and support 💛

Please make sure your pups stay cool, hydrated, and avoid walking during the hottest parts of the day 🐾

Let’s talk harnesses 🐕

First - a big myth to clear up: Harnesses do not cause dogs to pull.

Any dog will pull in a harness, collar, or headcollar if they haven’t been taught how to walk nicely on lead. Equipment doesn’t replace training!

✔️ My go-to recommendation?
A well-fitted Y-shape harness

These allow a full range of shoulder movement and don’t restrict your dog’s gait (which can lead to issues over time with the wrong style).

Ideally with two points of attachment - front and back This gives you more control and, more importantly, gives us a little more flexibility when working on loose lead walking.

Used properly, both attachment points can help guide your dog into making better choices without force or frustration.

Remember - the goal isn’t to rely on the equipment forever… it’s to teach your dog how to walk calmly by your side.

Second session for the lovely Skip and Charlie today! They both had minimal training initially to allow them to settle in their forever home. We are now working on teaching a sit and a sit - stay, as well as working on recall and some confidence boosting around distractions.

Such sweet boys - both laid next to me on the sofa for cuddles and rested their heads on my lap when I sat down 💙💙
