Full Time-
Folkestone Pirates 4-2 Lydd Town Sunday
Yesterday saw us pick up our first 3 points in the Premier Division of the ADSFL. After falling 2 goals behind we battled back and got our reward in the end. After an extremely terrible start to the game, our opponents deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes. They doubled the lead 10 minutes later as the Pirates heads started to drop. However a change in shape kicked us on and Chappers half the deficit flicking on a Josiah throw on before the half ended.
The introduction of Sean Mundoma on his debut and Mak Ilic after a year and a half away, really changed the second 45. Josiah levelled the game shortly after the restart, and then we were ahead after a scramble in the box saw Kieran Bartlett sweep home from close range. We were much the better side for the rest of the half, battling away and looking dangerous every time the ball went into the box. Down the other end, keep Bill made a number of good saves and claims to relive the pressure at the back. The defence looked a lot more solid with the introduction of Charlie Soutar and Chris Calthorpe throughout the second half too. And with minutes remaining, Sean broke away and finished with ease to wrap the game up for the Pirates.
At the end of the day the three points was all that mattered and luckily for the pirates, it went their way. Credit to Lydd for another great battle, we wish them all the best for the rest of the campaign. It’s cup duties next for the Pirates, we travel back to Pitchside to face Stanhope & Beaver Rangers. After falling to a 6-0 defeat 2 weeks ago, can we cause a big cupset?
