Our NOSCA T12 campaign got underway on Thursday evening with a trip to Nairn.
After winning the toss, Fochabers captain Brent Johnson elected to bat first. Despite losing both openers early, a solid partnership between Matt Saunders (34 retired not out) and Callum Wilson (25 retired not out) steadied the innings and laid a strong foundation. Sam Hahn (9 not out) and Andy White (3 not out) then added valuable runs in the closing overs, helping Fochabers post 83-2 from their 12 overs.

In reply, Nairn made a strong start as openers Adam Gallop (20) and Dave Wolton (25 retired not out) guided their side to 43 runs after the first six overs. However, disciplined bowling and sharp fielding from Fochabers including 2 run outs and a stumping restricted the hosts' scoring rate, with Nairn ultimately finishing eight runs short of their target with 75-4.

Fochabers produced a dominant all round display to defeat Forres by 132 runs in their 2nd round cup clash.

After winning the toss, Fochabers put on 224, with Callum Wilson hitting his first ever half century (50 retired not out). Matt Saunders continued his in-form batting (50 retired not out) and Tris Fahey also hit a quick (51 retired not out).

In reply, Forres were restricted to 92 (including 39 extras) with Andy Kerr and Rory Allardice picking up two wickets each, while the other wickets were shared between Sam, Brent, Martin, Daz and Callum as Fochabers fielded sharply throughout.

Three half centuries, a team effort with the ball and an emphatic victory made it an excellent evening for Fochabers.

A tough call for the skipper, but the Player of the Match award goes to Callum Wilson for his maiden 50, sharp fielding and constant encouragement of his team.

Match Report:
Fochabers CC 193/6 (40 overs)
🏏Matt Saunders 50 retired
🏏Andy Kerr 32
🏏Brent Johnson 26
Dornoch CC 123 all out (36.2 overs)
🏏Andy Kerr 3-14 off 7.2
🏏Callum Wilson 3-20 off 5
🏏Sam Hahn 2-29 off 8
Fochabers won by 70 runs.
A deserved victory built on strong batting foundations and a ruthless bowling performance.

🏏After winning the toss, Dornoch elected to field first, but Fochabers made them work hard in the field as the home side piled up an imposing 193 for 6 from 40 overs.

🏏The innings was built around a superb contribution from Matt, who anchored the batting with a composed 50 before retiring, providing the platform for a big total. He was well supported throughout the order, with Andy adding a fluent 32, while Brent (26) and Charlie Scott (16) made valuable contributions to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

🏏Further lower order runs ensured Fochabers maintained momentum through the latter stages of the innings. Despite some disciplined spells from Dornoch’s bowlers, particularly C. Thomson (2 for 24), Fochabers’ batting depth proved too strong.

Defending 194, Fochabers’ bowlers responded brilliantly with a disciplined and aggressive display that never allowed Dornoch to settle.
The standout performer was Andy Kerr, with an exceptional 3-14, including three maidens, putting Dornoch firmly on the back foot. He was backed superbly by Callum Wilson, whose accuracy brought 3 wickets, while Sam Hahn claimed 2 to keep the pressure relentless.

🏏There were also important breakthroughs from Alan Sherman and Charlie Scott, ensuring wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
Dornoch struggled to build partnerships under the sustained pressure and were eventually dismissed for 123 in 36.2 overs.

🏏Fochabers’ fielding also played a major role, with sharp catches from Alan, Andy and WK Tomas Campbell and adding pressure in the field especially Guy Nicols, Mike Fox and Daz Williamson restricting scoring opportunities and forcing mistakes.

🏏The result capped a highly professional display from Fochabers, whose balanced batting line up, disciplined bowling attack and sharp fielding secured a convincing victory and valuable points.

Fochabers Captain Brent Johnson named Andy Kerr as Player of the match for the third successive week for his knock of 32, taking 3-14 and a superb catch at mid on 👏

🏏 Match Report – Fochabers v Nairn County Cricket Club
Fochabers won the toss and elected to bowl.

🏏With rain forecast, both captains agreed to a reduced 25-over game with Nairn scoring 117-8.

🏏Andy Kerr (2-18) and Charlie Scott (2-20) led the attack, with first wickets for Matt Saunders and Alan Sherman in his first outing for Fochabers. Captain Brent Johnson and Callum Wilson also took a wicket in their 2 over spells. 15 year old Sam Hahn once again displayed excellent skills as wicket keeper, including the quality stumping and dismissal of Nairn Captain Dave Wolton.

🏏Fochabers battled hard in reply, with Andy Kerr top scoring with 23, supported by opener Brent Johnson (19) who both continually found the Nairn fielders in their effort to keep the scoreboard ticking over, (especially to our own 12th player, Ross MacLeod, who kindly stepped in to field for Nairn after one of their players suffered an injury earlier in the game). Charlie Scott (13)* and Sam Hahn (15)* dug in to the end finishing with 92-4.

🏏For the 2nd week running, Andy Kerr secures Fochabers Player of the match.

Apart from the smell of fresh cut grass, there's always something special about seeing it striped and the ground looking its best — all set for our midday start against Nairn Cricket Club.

Here’s hoping the sunshine sticks around and the weather carries on for what should be a cracking day of cricket tomorrow ☀️
