π FINAL SCORE π
Bro Gwernant 15 - 30
A strong performance on the road sees Flint take the win in Llangollen πͺ
Aled Davies gives his match report π€
"Flint arrived in style at Llangollen on Saturday on a 50 seater coach, with it being the last long away trip of the season.
But before looking forward to a night out around Llangollen dressed in their 80's outfit, there was a small matter of playing & trying to get the right result so the celebrations later would be something to celebrate.
Flint won the toss & decided to play with the famous slope of Bro's pitch to their backs, to do that meant they needed to run in some scores before half time as Bro would undoubtedly come out with all guns blazing with having the slope behind them, as they know best how to play their own pitch.
Flint started well enough putting pressure on the home side, but a well drilled Bro side worked their way up the pitch and under their pressure, Flint gave away a penalty in front of goal 3-0
This didn't phase Flint, because they new full well what they needed to do before going into the break, the forwards suddenly flew into action with some telling drives, giving their backs quick ball, who with their handling and speed and with the slope behind them, the pressure on Bro mounted, first to go over was centre Kieran Jones, but his conversion was missed by Flints normally reliable kicker and skipper James Beresford 3-5, next over after a jinky run was flyhalf Harry Neild, converted by Beresford 3-12.
Nield went over again for his brace of tries, converted by Beresford 3 - 19, then after another drive by Flints powerhouse forwards over the line, back rower Loz Rogers was extremely unlucky to have his try disallowed, but no matter Flint were soon on the attack again when the eventually MOM Nield spotted 2nd row Josh Moss out wide on his own and chipped the ball over to him, for Moss to catch it on the full to run in an unconverted try out wide.
Flint then went into the break with a commanding lead of 3-24, but would that be enough to see the Castlemen through for a win which had eluded them at Llangollen for a good number of years.
Bro started the 2nd half as predicted, their mission to score more than 20 points without concededing and with the ferocity they showed with the ball in hand at some stages they looked as if they might do it, running in 2 tries with one converted in the first 20 minutes after the break 15-24.
But then Flint managed to gather themselves and weathered the storm to work their way up field resulting in a penalty in kicking distance for Beresford to slot over 15-27.
With the ball coming back to them, Flint slowly broke Bro's will and began to put the pressure back on the home side by keeping them pinned back in their own half, which resulted in another penalty 5 meters out in front of post, the Castlemen could of easily gone for another try, but with the bonus try point already secured in the first half, Beresford went for the safe and correct option of 3 points 15-30.
With the ball coming back to them again, Flints Castlemen kept possession until the final whistle.
So with a well fought and deserved win, the lads off Flint celebrated their victory late into the night around Llangollen.
