🇬🇧 TOM TAKES ON TARRAGONA! 🇬🇧
Huge congratulations to our very own Tom, who repped Team GB Age Group at the Olympic distance triathlon in Tarragona over the weekend! 🇬🇧✨
To say Tom had an eventful race would be a massive understatement...
🏊‍♂️ The Swim: Absolute rocket. Tom was the first out of the water overall with a blistering time of 22:03!
🚴‍♂️ The Bike: Flying on two wheels, putting down an incredible 1:02:19.
💥 The Twist: At 30mph, disaster struck. Tom didn’t see a final speed bump and took a massive tumble.
🏃‍♂️ The Run: Covered in cuts, scrapes, and pure adrenaline, he dug deep and pushed through a 42:47 run.
Despite a crash that would have ended most people's day, Tom showed what Wyre Tri Club members are made of. Grit, determination, and a whole lot of heart carried him across the finish line to take a phenomenal 4th place! 🏅💪
Tom, you are an absolute warrior. Rest up, heal those battle wounds, and clean up that bike—we are incredibly proud of you!

📸 MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO TONY! 🏃‍♂️💨
While most of us were enjoying our weekend, Wyre Tri’s very own Tony was busy conquering "The Wall"—and absolutely smashing it!
For those who don't know, "The Wall" (hosted by Rat Race Events) is no walk in the park. It’s a grueling 70-mile (113km) point-to-point ultramarathon stretching across Northern England, tracing the historic corridor of Hadrian's Wall from Carlisle Castle all the way to Gateshead.
Participants are given up to 26 hours to complete the mixed terrain of country trails, roads, and river valleys. Tony? He decided he didn't need anywhere near that long.
Check out these mind-blowing stats:
⏱️ Finish Time: 12 hours, 13 minutes, and 51 seconds
🏆 Placing: 24th out of 2,132 competitors!
To finish a 70-mile ultra is an incredible achievement in itself, but to finish in the top 1.2% of a massive international field is next-level phenomenal.

What a fantastic weekend of social running with the Wyre Tri crew! Our members were out in full force keeping each other moving.
Whether you were hitting a personal milestone, getting those base miles in, or just out for the post-run coffee and cake—you absolutely smashed it. 🙌

We took full advantage of the empty water polo net last night and squeezed in an extra 30 minutes of pool time!
The squad smashed through a spicy endurance mixer of 400m, 200m, and 100m sets. Massive effort from everyone who came down and pushed through the extra yardage! 🙌
A special shoutout to Craig who decided the best way to celebrate his birthday was by swallowing pool water and chasing paces with us.

🔥 IRONMAN 70.3 BOLTON IS IN THE BOOKS!🔥

A massive, massive congratulations to our incredible Wyre Tri Club trio who took on the Bolton course on Sunday and absolutely smashed it! 🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Here is how the day unfolded for our racing royalty:

Adam – Crossing the line in a mind-blowing 4:49:20! What makes this even more insane? He’s been carrying an injury and has done virtually zero running training leading up to this. To pull that time out of the bag is nothing short of legendary. 🤯💪

Ricky – Finishing in a fantastic 5:32:48! A huge special shoutout to Ricky, as this was his very first time tackling the 70.3 distance. You paced it perfectly, mate, welcome to the middle-distance club! 🏅🚀

Craig – Clocking a brilliant 5:40:39! In true Craig fashion, he didn’t waste any time celebrating. Rumor has it his transition from the finish line straight to the bar set a new club record. Priorities absolutely spot on. 🍻🏃‍♂️

We are incredibly proud of all three of you. The dedication, the early mornings, and the teamwork on display represents everything Wyre Tri Club is about.

🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ IRONMAN HAMBURG 🚀 CRUSHING IT, UNTIL CRUEL SABOTAGE: Proud of you, James! 🚀

We want to give a massive shoutout to our incredible club member, James, who took on Ironman Hamburg this weekend.
James was absolutely crushing it out there and putting on a masterclass performance. He started the day with a brilliant swim, crossing the line in 1:05:46, before zooming through T1 in just 6:09. Once he hit the bike course, he was quite literally flying—averaging a phenomenal 37 km/h! 🤯
But then, absolute disaster struck.
It has now been officially reported that the course was maliciously sabotaged. In a shocking and devastating turn of events, hundreds of participants—including James—had their races cut short after their tires were punctured by deliberately placed metal fragments.
To say we are angry and devastated for James and everyone else affected is an understatement. This is shocking behavior that goes against everything the triathlon community stands for. James has worked tirelessly, putting in endless hours of blood, sweat, and tears to get to that start line in peak condition. To have a race stolen away by such a mindless act is heartbreaking.
James, the entire Wyre Tri Club family is incredibly proud of you. You proved your strength, your speed, and your dedication out there. This doesn’t change the athlete you are, and we all know you will be back on that course even stronger. ⭐💙

Huge congratulations to our fantastic Club Chairman, Chris, for smashing the Lakeland Trails Half Marathon over the weekend! 🏃‍♂️💨
Chris crossed the finish line in a brilliant time of 2:47:12! ⏱️
The Lake District put on a stunning show with stunning scenery, especially the breathtaking views around Tarn Hows. But don't let those picture-perfect views fool you—this was a seriously tough cookie of a course. 🏔️✨
With relentless hills and highly technical, demanding ascents and descents, it was the ultimate test of grit and agility. It’s all perfect bank balance for the memory bank—and the legs—as Chris gets his trail-running gears turning in preparation for The Lap! 🔄💪

Tony Vs the background ultra... Guess who won? 🏆⭐

Huge congratulations to Wyre Tri’s very own Tony for taking on the brutal, mind-bending challenge that is the Stafford Backyard Ultra!

Tony clocked in an unbelievable 52 miles in a total moving time of 9:05:40! 🤯

For those who don't know how a Backyard Ultra works, it’s a pure test of mental grit and pacing:

🔔 The Loop: Every single hour, the bell rings. Competitors must complete a strict 4.167-mile loop and be back in the starting corral before the next hour begins.

⏳ The Pace: Finish a lap quickly, and you get a few precious minutes to rest, refuel, and stretch. Finish late, and you’re out.

🏁 The Finish: The race runs continuously through day and night until only one sole survivor completes a final solo loop.

Because of the unique rules, everyone except the outright winner technically gets a "DNF" on the leaderboard. But around here, we go by the organizers' definition: Did Not Fail. Tony, you absolutely smashed it. To keep putting yourself back in that starting corral hour after hour takes massive mental toughness and serious legs. The whole club is incredibly proud of you! 🖤💚

Huge, massive, mega congratulations to our incredible Kirsty who absolutely smashed the Montane Ullswater Way Trail Ultra! 🏔️🏃‍♀️

Taking on the stunning (but brutal) Lakeland terrain, Kirsty crossed the finish line in a time of 10:11:14! ⏱️🔥

Leading by example as always, she showed us all what grit, determination, and proper training look like. We couldn't be prouder to have her steering the ship here at Wyre Tri Club. You are a total inspiration! 👑

Mick absolutely smashed it, crossing the finish line in a blistering time of 22:11 to secure 1st place in the MV65 category! 🥇

Proving once again that age is just a number and hard work pays off. We are incredibly proud to have you representing the club, Mick. Brilliant running! 💙👏🏼
