Our U11 softball team travelled to St Anne’s last night and, after winning the toss, elected to bowl first.

Some excellent bowling and fantastic fielding kept St Anne’s scoring under control throughout the innings. The wickets soon started to fall, with Archie claiming his first wicket in his first game for the club. Brayden, also making his debut, was next on the scoresheet with a wicket thanks to a brilliant catch from Jamie. Lincoln then sent the bails flying, before Hugo picked up two wickets. Not to be outdone, Jamie finished with an impressive three wickets of his own.

Chasing the target, Blake and Archie opened the batting. Facing some strong bowling from St Anne’s, they played sensibly, rotating the strike with some cheeky singles. Blake then found the boundary with a four, before Archie smashed a huge six over the spectator stand and into the car park!

Next to the crease were brothers Alfie and Brayden. The pair showed great running between the wickets and some excellent batting, with Alfie hitting two fours. Brayden also showed great bravery after taking a knock and carrying on.

Lincoln and Matthew were next in. St Anne’s continued to bowl well and made scoring difficult, but Matthew broke the pressure with a well-struck four and some smart running between the wickets.

Last up were Jamie and Hugo, facing St Anne’s strongest bowlers. That didn’t stop them, though, as Jamie hit two fours and Hugo added a boundary of his own, along with some excellent running between the wickets.

A fantastic team performance from everyone involved, with great effort, teamwork and determination throughout. Well done, boys!

The Ladies Softball Team were back in action this week and, in a rare but welcome moment, won the toss!

Fleetwood elected to bat first and, with no wind and the sun perfectly positioned, conditions couldn't have been better for cricket.

Kath set the standard early, smashing four boundaries and a mighty six to get Fleetwood off to a flying start and keep the run rate high from the get go.

The second pair, Heidi and Laura, continued the momentum, with both batters hitting three fours each during an impressive partnership.

Another boundary came from Steph, while her partnership with Morgan, along with Bobbi and Ashley's pairing, focused on rotating the strike and picking up valuable singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Great Eccleston fought back well, claiming several wickets through some excellent bowling and sharp work behind the stumps from their wicketkeeper.

With a strong total on the board, it was Fleetwood's turn to field. The team knew that tight bowling and quick fielding would be key to securing the win.

After Great Eccleston hit a boundary, Ashley responded brilliantly by adjusting her bowling and taking a wicket with the very next ball.

Fleetwood continued to apply pressure with great bowling, and Morgan soon added another wicket to the tally.

Another breakthrough came through excellent teamwork, with Heidi's bowling creating the opportunity for a cheeky catch behind the wicket from Kath.

In the field, Usha, Steph and Laura all worked tirelessly to prevent boundaries, while Kath also chipped in with a wicket of her own. Whilst Kath went to bowl Laura stepped up to wicket keeping duties and being braver than us all with a diving catch and stopping everything from going behind.

Great Eccleston managed to find a few boundaries towards the end of their innings, but it wasn't enough to close the gap, and Fleetwood secured another well-earned victory.

It was a fantastic game played in beautiful weather, with both teams contributing to an enjoyable evening of cricket.

A special shout out goes to Emma and Katie, who stepped away from playing duties to help with umpiring and scoring, ensuring the match could go ahead. Your support was greatly appreciated by everyone involved.
