Unpopular opinion: tight muscles don’t always need more pressure.

Sometimes, more pressure can actually be perceived by the nervous system as a threat particularly when the body is already highly guarded or sensitised.

Because what we experience as “tightness” isn’t always simply a short or tight muscle.

Sometimes it’s protective tension patterning the nervous system creating muscular holding because, for whatever reason, it currently feels necessary.

This is why deep relaxation can be such a powerful part of bodywork.

As arousal reduces and the brain moves towards the slower alpha activity associated with relaxed wakefulness, parasympathetic influence can increase. Breathing slows. Guarding can soften. Pain sensitivity can reduce. The nervous system has an opportunity to update its response.

And sometimes, tension begins to shift without us forcing it to.

The aim isn’t always to push harder until a muscle “releases”.

Sometimes it’s creating enough safety, time and space that the body decides it no longer needs to hold so tightly.

Less force. Less threat. More opportunity for change.

A little look inside my new treatment space in Eversley!

A private, quiet space created for bodywork, somatic therapy, movement and deep restoration.

My work brings together my background in the body, movement and nervous system, with a gentle, individual approach to each person I work with.

Within this space I offer:

Bodywork Therapy:
Massage, assisted stretching, fascial work and mobility supporting areas of tension, restriction and discomfort, or simply giving the body space to deeply decompress.

Somatic Therapy:
Breathing mechanics/breathwork, body awareness, gentle movement and nervous-system-informed practices exploring how you breathe, move, hold tension and respond within your body.

Integrated Sessions:
A combination of bodywork, breath, somatics and movement, guided by what your body needs on the day.

Movement & Strength:
Mobility, core integration and gentle bodyweight strength building connection, confidence and capacity within the body.

You don’t have to be in pain to come here.

You might want to move more freely, understand your body better, reconnect with your breath, build strength or simply slow down, receive and deeply rest.

A different way of working with the body.

Creating space before strength.
Awareness before action.
Connection before correction.

What if rebuilding strength didn’t always start with adding more load?

This is a little insight into one of my client’s journeys over the past year from persistent lower back & SI joint pain alongside a diagnosed lower lumbar disc prolapse, to now experiencing minimal pain and many completely pain-free days.

Her journey has brought together so many aspects of my work massage & assisted stretching, breathing mechanics, breathwork, mobilisation, core integration and gentle bodyweight strengthening.

No gym equipment. No external resistance. No forcing the body through discomfort.

Instead, we’ve worked consistently with the feedback her body gives us sometimes releasing, sometimes mobilising, sometimes reconnecting and strengthening.

A huge part of the process has been rebuilding trust around movement and discomfort, developing mind-muscle connection and gradually creating more stability around the pelvis through the pelvic floor, core and glutes.

Safety first. Connection before load. Strength built from there.

This is exactly why I don’t believe every body needs the same session every week. We listen, adapt and work with what the body is ready for that day.

Over the years I’ve become fascinated by the way our bodies hold our stories.

The shoulders we carry tension in.

The breath we forget to take.

The places we protect without even realising.

Women’s Somatic Sanctuary is a space to slow down, become curious and reconnect with yourself gently, without pressure or performance.

If something in this video resonates with you, we’d love to welcome you.

This isn’t a fitness class or a traditional women’s circle.

We don’t simply teach movement. We invite you to understand the body you’re moving in.

Through movement, breath, education and deep rest, we cultivate curiosity, deepen body awareness and explore what becomes possible when the body feels safe enough to soften.

🌿 Grounding & Sharing Circle

🌿 Education on the Pelvis, Pain, Posture, Breathing mechanics & the Nervous System

🌿 Somatic Movement & Hip Mobility

🌿 Breathwork & Nervous System Regulation

🌿 Core Integration

🌿 Deep Guided Relaxation

We’re not trying to convince the body to relax. We’re creating the conditions where it no longer needs to hold on so tightly.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve noticed things that others often didn’t.

The smallest changes in someone’s posture.

A shift in their breathing.

The way their eyes move.

The side they unconsciously protect.

The subtle hesitation before they take a step.

For a long time, I didn’t understand it. If anything, it felt overwhelming. I could walk into a room and sense things before anyone had spoken. I noticed details I couldn’t switch off.

Over the years, I’ve realised this isn’t something to suppress.

It’s become the foundation of my work.

Before I think about exercises, treatment or movement, I observe.

I listen.

I become curious.

Because every body has a story long before it speaks.

I’ve learnt that the body is constantly communicating through breath, posture, movement, tension and compensation. Nothing exists in isolation. The nervous system, the breath, the pelvis, the fascia, the eyes, our movement they are all in conversation with one another.

The more deeply I observe, the less I believe people are broken.

Instead, I see intelligent bodies doing their best to adapt, protect and keep us moving through life.

My work isn’t about forcing change.

It’s about listening deeply enough to understand what the body has been trying to say all along.

Perhaps that’s why movement has always felt so important to me.

Because movement isn’t just something we do.

It’s one of the ways the body tells its story.

Time and time again, my work leads me back to the same place: the breath, the pelvis, the nervous system, and the remarkable intelligence that connects them all.

Observation before intervention.

Be curious, the body is always communicating...

So I ask… What is your body trying to communicate with you today?
