Postnatal Doula

Postnatal Doula I completed my initial continuum doula training in 2021 and am currently a mentored postnatal doula. I went vegan 4 years ago and have never looked back!

I’m Jenny, a post-natal doula in training, here to help and support new mums experience a calm and relaxed postnatal period, providing them the confidence to take the next steps in their role as a mother. I am also a fully qualified Style Director with Toni & Guy (for over 18 years), so can even offer a fresh cut* and blow-dry! Nothing like the opportunity for a warm shower followed by a blow-dry

to make you feel yourself again! (*additional cost)

I am fully insured, have a current DBS certificate and a clean driving license. I live in Hampshire with my husband, two children aged 6 and 4 and our dog Baxter. I made this choice to help cater for my son who has extreme food allergies and cook the majority of all our family meals from scratch.

I need to remind myself of this, this week has been super tough. Both children are displaying different emotions, my older one super sensitive and my younger one super crazy. I guess it’s the thought of going back to school after being off with us for 2 weeks. I’ve held back saying ‘everything will be fine, incase it isn’t’ i’ve tried to keep my cool, it’s hard being a mumma. Having people around me to give me sound advice and a hug, makes me feel supported, accept the advice 💕

A baby has to adjust just as much as a new mum, being on the other side is a huge transition from the safety of the womb they have just left. The changes they have to adapt to are massive, so we need to be kind to ourselves if things don’t always go smoothly in the 4th trimester

One thing I’m passionate about is cooking, especially cooking a meal from scratch for friends and family. Any chance I get, I invite friends over and cook them a meal. Becoming a vegan opened a whole new world for me, learning how to cook a completely different way, exploring all the spices and flavours you need to make meals super tasty. So to learn about healing foods for postpartum has made me even more excited, I can’t wait to try them for myself. Here are a couple of warming recipes I am looking to try out and make for a postnatal family

Did you know a doula also supports the partner and close family? They can help with taking care of other children and helping the family to bond with a new baby. Talking, debriefing with the birth partner and how they all can be included in the postnatal period emotionally and physically

The five insights of the first forty days:
Retreat - say no to visitors and unwanted help
Warmth - stay away from cold foods, Indulge in warming foods and hot drinks
Support - it’s ok to ask for help be it with household chores or with your other children
Rest - nap and don’t feel guilty, tell whoever is in the house that they need to be quiet
Ritual - make time for you and what you enjoy, walking, sitting in the sunshine, take a class, self-care, time to treat yourself
