Table Tennis Wales 2026 National Vets League report from the club’s Bangor Correspondent:
Fearsome Fishguard Four, Jonathan Fortune, Alex, Vicki and Silfan were back in competition at the second weekend in Bangor and didn’t they have a lovely time. Day one was a battle in every game. Silfan Rhys-jones had some tough matches with amazing rallies, Alex frustrated teams with his pimples out bat and played some brilliant table tennis winning games even he did not expect to. Jonathan won some and lost some but the day ended with the team holding on to their bronze medal position. Day 2 was equally tough but all the team members pulled out their best table tennis to bring back the Bronze for the club. All agreed it was a great team effort particularly after the first game in January when a medal looked unlikely. Well done to the players and also the designated Coaches - Janet, Kate and Geraint.

Welsh Nationals 2026 Report from Janet, our resident Journalist!
Fantastic Fishguard had a strong representation at the Welsh Nationals, competing across different categories, men’s singles, over 40s, over 50s over 60s, over 70s and men’s senior doubles
Silfan had us all holding our breath as he fought back from 2 games down to beat the Welsh number 25 in 5 sets. Jonathan won through to the quarterfinals and was unlucky to lose in 5 to the Welsh Masters team player, a veteran of the competition. Ben and Alex fought for every point in their singles matches, they ended the weekend playing in the doubles. Alex committed himself to 4 different categories, surely wondering what he’d done by lunch time on Sunday! Particularly as he found himself in the same group as Silfan in the afternoon but he played outstanding to make every game in the group close. Throughout the two days the support from family and friends was as enthusiastic and dedicated as ever.
