What a fantastic story! Well done Nathan Mattick.

Nathan Mattick is a Level 7 Referee from Gloucestershire. Nathan was born with a condition called Cerebral Palsy which means he has to rely on using a powered wheelchair to help him move around. He began his refereeing journey in 2013 and is the first wheelchair-using referee in the UK. He became a member of the Gloucestershire FA Youth Council in 2016 before leaving in 2017. Soon after, Nathan joined the RA as a member. In 2019, Nathan was asked to support the Media team before becoming an Honorary Officer. In 2021, Nathan was successful in his application to the RA Board of Management where he looks after the digital content for the RA.

A player was cautioned (yellow card) for unsporting behaviour in the first half. During the second half, the same player commits a reckless challenge. The referee stops play, awards a direct free kick and the offending player shows dissent. What disciplinary action does the referee take?

Thursday we had a great meeting with some new faces which was great (+ the old ones!). Now all our efforts turn to providing new material that gives an insight into the life of a grassroots referee. Plus we have a special guest at the next meeting, but who is it? Watch this space!
