🎤 Yet Another Night of Firsts at Ferndown Speakers

Another fun and friendly evening at Ferndown Speakers – and once again, plenty of firsts to celebrate!

Arran was our Toastmaster for the first time and did a wonderful job, leading the evening with warmth, humour and encouragement.

👏 Senugi tried Timekeeper for the first time
👏 Bob took on Grammarian
👏 Our guests Edwina and Ash tackled their first-ever Table Topics
👏 Salma stepped forward as Warm-up Toastmaster for the first time

We also enjoyed excellent speeches from Gary and Tristan, a lively Table Topics session from Claire, and some very thoughtful feedback from Amelia and Hazel.

And congratulations to our award winners:

From Inspiration to Action

Greg Gazin, DTM, talks with 16-year-old Runfeng Bruce Yu, whose first Toastmasters experience inspired him to help other young people discover the confidence and encouragement that changed his own life.

The Power of Storytelling in Sales

“You tell a story about where your customer was before they met you—they probably weren’t in a very good place,” he says. “Then you fast-forward to where they are now, doing really well. And of course, what the audience wants to know is how? And the how is your product or service.”

By crafting relatable, motivating stories and practicing telling them to an audience, you can enhance your sales pitches by making them more engaging and more likely to be repeated.

Another fun-packed evening at Ferndown Speakers on Tuesday 18 August, led by our Toastmaster for the evening, Connor, who guided the meeting with his trademark warmth, welcoming style and charm.

It was very much a night of firsts – and a wonderful example of what Toastmasters is all about: having a go, trying something new and supporting each other along the way.

Waleed, a very welcome guest to Ferndown Speakers, took on his first-ever Table Topic. Well done, Waleed!

Senugi gave her first evaluation at Ferndown Speakers, while Sally stepped into the role of Grammarian for the first time and did an excellent job.

And Salma reached an important Toastmasters milestone by delivering an inspirational Ice Breaker speech – the first prepared speech of her Toastmasters journey. Congratulations Salma!

And a warm welcome to Jaynie, our new Area Director.

The evening also brought plenty of experience, entertainment and learning.

Bob delighted the meeting with an entertaining technical critique of a piece of prose he had written called *Bird*, while Christoph, as General Evaluator, delivered an outstanding evaluation of the meeting.

And last, but by no means least, John, one of our veteran Toastmasters, gave a genuine masterclass in evaluation. Demonstrating just how valuable thoughtful, constructive feedback can be.

Another evening full of speaking, learning, laughter and encouragement – and another reminder that at Ferndown Speakers, there is always an opportunity to try something for the first time.

Dynamic speeches, inspiring recognition, and another fantastic evening at Ferndown Speakers!

What a brilliant meeting we enjoyed on Tuesday 4 August, expertly led by our Toastmaster for the evening, Liska, who kept the programme flowing with warmth and energy.

We were treated to a series of excellent speeches, with Emiliano taking us on a fascinating journey around Poole Harbour in a rich and engaging presentation. Bob then kept everyone on their toes with a fun, food-themed Table Topics session, before our evaluators provided thoughtful and encouraging feedback to help every speaker continue to grow.

A special moment of the evening came when Rob Dewing, District Director, thanked Amelia, Hazel and Connor for their exceptional commitment and dedication in helping bring our club to where it is today. Their hard work has made a real difference to Ferndown Speakers.
