An early Christmas present for 3 members of Felixstowe Karate Club.
At a grading examination conducted by Grand Master Mr Mick Blackwell, 10th Dan, president of the EKKA (English Korean Karate Association), 3 club members received promotion.
Following the rigorous assessment, Felixstowe instructor Kirsty was awarded the rank of 3rd Dan, the highest rank attained by a woman in the club's history. Brownbelts Melanie and Henry successfully gained their 1st Dan Blackbelts. This brings the tally of blackbelts currently at the club to 6.
Head instructor Paul Mortimore, 6th Dan, was impressed with their performance during the assessment and was pleased that their hard work and dedication had paid off.

The club is now closed for the Christmas break, however classes will resume at Brackenbury Sports Centre from Sunday 4th January, and Felixstowe School and Sixth Form from Wednesday 7th January 2026. New adult and juniors members are always welcome to come along.

What a way to finish a fantastic weekend!
We've had a great time at the EKKA Karate Association Summer Camp enjoying traditional training and trying our hands at activities such as Japanese Archery (a personal highlight 😉). But nothing stands up to a brilliant Dan grading, especially when it features some of our own...
Huge CONGRATULATIONS to Joe for being awarded his 3rd Dan, and the surprise of the weekend, Kata, who was awarded her 1st Dan. Absolutely amazing, guys, we are so proud of you both! 👏🎉👏🎉

A quick (and late!) reminder that tomorrow will be our last class of 2024 😢 as we take a short break to enjoy the seasonal festivities 🥳
To help everyone make the most of the last class of the year, it will be a 2 hour session starting at 10am, for anyone who wants to join in! If you can only make it for one of the two hours, that's great, too - the more the merrier 😁

We were absolutely thrilled to see our very own lead instructor and club founder, Paul Mortimore, 6th Dan, presented with the prestigious EKKA Student of the Year award at this year's Summer Camp. The award was presented by association President Master Mick Blackwel, 9th Dan, and was for Paul's support of the association and attendance at the annual summer courses since the very beginning - 50 years ago!
Well done, Paul! An incredible achievement and so very well deserved. You are an inspiration to us all 👏👏🎉🏆🎊
