π©· As a swim teacher, there are moments when what we do feels bigger than lessons, badges, or learning a new stroke.π©·
π Over the past few weeks, we've all seen heartbreaking reports of children and teenagers losing their lives in water-related incidents. It's a painful reminder that water can be enjoyed safely, but it must also be respected. π
π©· Recent reports across the UK have highlighted a rise in drowning tragedies involving young people during the unusually warm weather.π©·
π Swimming lessons aren't about creating the next Olympic champion. They're about giving children confidence, life saving skills, and the ability to stay calm if they ever find themselves in difficulty.π
π©· Every child deserves the chance to learn how to float, tread water, understand water safety, and know what to do in an emergency. These skills can make all the difference.π©·
π As parents, carers, teachers, and communities, we all have a role to play in helping children stay safe around water this summer. Have the conversations. Supervise closely. Encourage water safety. And if your child hasn't yet learned to swim, consider making this the year they start.π
β€οΈ Our hearts go out to every family affected by these recent tragedies. β€οΈ
β Let's work together to make sure more children have the skills and confidence they need to enjoy the water safely.β
Please enjoy the water but stay safe,
Scott and Roxanne π
