Race 7 & 8 Donington 12th & 13th September

Just returned from the final outing of the championship, can't believe it's gone so quickly πŸ˜₯
A very good weekend all in all, with a season high qualifying of 4th but then ended up in the gravel on the outside of McLean's on the last lap of race 1 whilst trying to pass Paul Oliphant, Phil MCGarty, and defend from a flying Richard Smith. That left me starting from 16th in race 2, but a great opening lap and some argy bargy by others found me finishing in a season best 6th place. A great way to round out the championship. Can't wait for the Birkett relay now in October. Photos and further updates to follow !

Official Ginetta Race report
Ginetta Racing Drivers Club :
Richard Evans brought an end to Adrian Campbell-Smith’s dominance of the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club after he took two wins from two in the season finale at Donington Park.

Starting from pole position, Campbell-Smith enjoyed an early lead whilst Richard Elliker powered from sixth on the grid into second position, demoting Evans to a brief third. A couple of corners later the pair had swapped again, but this time Evans shook his rival and latched onto the bumper of the race leader.

An equally exciting battle began to emerge between series newcomer Andrew Long and regulars Mike Jarvis and Peter Digby, with the trio running nose to tail in their road legal racing cars. Despite being on his GRDC debut, Long wasn’t shy when it came to getting stuck in, and passed Digby to take fifth on lap five.

With Jarvis handed a five second penalty for flouting track limits, he dropped behind Long on the timing screens, promoting the latter to fourth at the flag. Behind, Paul Oliphant and Phil McGarty enjoyed a fabulous race over seventh, with Richard Smith following closely.

Although outside of the top 10, it was equally exciting racing between Stefan Nadarajan, Colin Plumb and Steve Hughes as the trio made the most of their penultimate race.

The second race saw Evans enjoy an almost untroubled lights-to-flag victory. Speeding off the line, he had just under four seconds over the rest of the field as the cars completed their first lap. Digby meanwhile, was tapped into a spin at the first corner and was left to play catch up throughout the finale.

Elliker moved into second with Jarvis, McGarty and Smith in his wake. The th*****me then provided much of the finale’s excitement as they traded places throughout their eight lap dash to the flag. Jarvis eventually took the second position, with Elliker being shuffled down to third and Evans right behind.

Having struggled throughout the race, Campbell-Smith dropped down the order over the opening laps, whilst his race came to an unfortunate early end after he made contact with McGarty on the penultimate lap.

The two Pauls – Oliphant and Garstang – had a spectacular race for fifth, crossing the line just one second apart, whilst Stefan Nadarajan, Colin Plumb and Roy Perkins each had a drag race to the flag over eighth place.

With the season over, the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club can still enjoy their road legal racers on the UK roads, whilst a handful of drivers are already planning their next outing at the Birkett Relay later this year.

Here are some photographs from yesterday from Jakob Ebrey. Race 2 was another 7th place finish so very consistent over the weekend and probably a true reflection of my pace at present without more track time on this interesting and very challenging circuit. Looking forward to another visit next year although the 6 hour homeward journey was pretty tough at the end of a long and hot day πŸ˜€

PREVIEW : GINETTA RACING DRIVERS CLUB, BRANDS HATCH SUNDAY 2nd August
ο»ΏThe second half of the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club speeds into action at Brands Hatch this weekend, as a grid of newly qualified racing drivers continue their first ever season in motorsport, all behind the wheel of their brand new, fully road legal Ginetta G40 Club cars.

Now in its second year, the all-inclusive GRDC package is aimed at drivers with a desire to test their mettle at racing, offering step-by-step support as they move from the UK roads to some of the finest GT circuits in the country, and the best bit – this field of rookie racers only passed their test (ARDS tests that is) a few months ago!

The man to beat this weekend is Adrian Campbell-Smith who is currently unbeaten by the class of 2015, having won the opening races at Rockingham and finishing second to guest driver James Taylor at Silverstone.

Hot on his heels however will be Richard Evans, who picked up a pair of third places last time out, and Mike Jarvis, who narrowly missed out on a win at Rockingham in race two. Close behind them, Richard Smith and Phil McGarty are the only other drivers to have picked up silverware so far this season, and will be hoping the podium stays that way.

Proving that consistency is key, Simon Walker and Paul Garstang have regularly been challenging at the sharp end of the field, but the pair came under pressure from Peter Digby at Silverstone, with the latter being the only other of the drivers mentioned thus far to have finished inside the top five.

Drivers to watch out for this weekend include Roy Perkins, Richard Eliker and Paul Oliphant, with the trio each narrowly missing out on a top five result in the opening races and each keen to graduate into the top spots in the latter half of the season.

Mark Cundy, Dan Collinson and Steve Hughes enjoyed some fantastic on track racing in their last outing, whilst blogger Stefan Nadarajan, Paul Zwicky-Ross and Jim Finneran will no doubt be looking to pick up at the pace they left off. Others to look forward to include Mike Newbould and Colin Plumb.

Test results after the rolling road showed an 18.5 HP increase which is approx 15% increase. Last weekends test at Rockingham showed a top speed increase of 6 mph over the race speed from April's race meeting. Deduction is that the car has been under powered all season unfortunately, but going into next weekends Brands Hatch race I'm full of confidence, only fly in the ointment being that I've never been to Brands Hatch before πŸ˜€ so much learning to be done !!!!

Here at Ginetta cars this sunny Monday morning in Garforth on the rolling road to check the power output. Then having full belts fitted to the passenger seat ahead of all those passenger rides I'm going to give at the Ginetta Summer Festival on the 19th July at Rockingham. More details to follow but everyone is welcome for a day of music, food, and rides πŸ˜ƒ

It's been a while since my last post, as I was disappointed with 12th & 11th in race 3 and 4. We now have 20 cars competing in the championship which makes for a great grid, but I must find more pace.

A torrentially wet Friday which again stopped me getting any pre race practice in gave way to a sunny dry Saturday, but following the slippy conditions of Friday I did not get my dry weather lap times back quick enough enough the 6 laps of qualifying and only finished 12th. The race pace was compromised by the cars ahead, and we seemed to lack straight line speed, closing on cars coming out of the corners but then losing ground as the straights unwound.
Sunday's race was on a damp track and I had my most enjoyable race to date dicing with Paul Oliphant and Paul Zwicky Ross. An 11th place finish was scant reward but great racing and all cars remained intact !
So now we are on a break before heading to Brands Hatch on August 1st and 2nd for another iconic circuit debut. I have managed to get a test day booked for the 29th July as I've not even been to Brands to spectate. So once again playing catch up, but determined to push to the max.
A big thank you to Carl and Robert Dunkley for their race support throughout the whole weekend and to Jake Cowburn for helping get my trailer loaded with the car on a late Friday session :)
I'd also like to thank Raj and Gabby for coming down on Sunday to a rather damp Silverstone to cheer me on, and of course Nikki for her unfailing believe and encouragement despite the driver having the occasional sulk πŸ˜€

Silverstone - Rounds 3 & 4

Following their competitive motorsport debut at Rockingham Motor Speedway earlier this month, the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club class of 2015 are looking forward to another exciting race weekend, all behind the wheel of their brand new, fully road legal Ginetta G40 Club cars.

The man to beat this weekend is Adrian Campbell-Smith who picked up both wins on offer last time out, but he will undoubtedly come under pressure from Mike Jarvis, who secured a third and second place and has his sights firmly set on a win at the Home Of British Motorsport.

As the only other two drivers to have picked up silverware on their racing debut, Phil McGarty and Richard Smith will be looking for more of the same, whilst Richard Evans – who narrowly missed out on qualifying on pole position for the opener - and Simon Walker will be snapping at their heels, having narrowly missed out on the champagne celebrations in Corby.

Drivers to watch out for include top five finisher Paul Garstang, Mike Newbould, who was particularly racy at the Rock and Roy Perkins, Steve Hughes and Stefan Nadarajan, who enjoyed some great on track battling in their last outing, and will no doubt be picking up where they left off. Others to look forward to include Mark Cundy, Colin Plumb, Dan Collinson and Jim Finneran – with the foursome regularly position swapping during their debut a few weeks ago.

Joining the grid for the first time will be Yorkshiremen Paul Zwicky-Ross and Richard Elliker, CAR Magazine Staff Writer James Taylor. Plus Paul Oliphant - father of Team LNT GT3 driver Tom - and Xtrac boss Peter Digby.

In what will be the last race meeting before the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club head off on the road trip of a lifetime to the Le Mans 24 Hours as guests of Ginetta boss Lawrence Tomlinson, the grid will undoubtedly be racing hard for bragging rights around the pool of their French chateau.
