🚨 We’re 2025 R&G Challenger Cup Champions!! 🄳🄳 🚨
It’s no secret that we’ve been chasing the R&G Challenger Cup championship this year and today we’ve wrapped it up after a very tight LCQ race at the season finale at Brands Hatch šŸ’Ŗ
P4 was just enough to secure it, but it could’ve just as easily been P2 or P6 as it was that close. Feeling a strange mix of joy and relief now!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this success for us ā¤ļø

Round 8 of the BMW F900R Cup is at the world famous Cathedral of Speed; Assen!

It’s a massive privilege to get the chance to ride and race here, especially in front of the brilliant BSB fans, and was the key factor for us in deciding to continue with the championship this year after a tough 2024.

The track is living up to its reputation, fast and flowing, big 5th gear corners and flat out kinks, billiard table smooth - it is epic. Like Donington and Thruxton have combined and made a bigger and better offspring. And the paddock is top notch too!

Jim started fairly well, P26 in FP1, but then went the wrong way for him in Qually and didn’t make a leap in the times, finishing P29.

FP1: 1:55.4
Qually: 1:55.1

The front guys are doing 1:46s…

We’re out at 12:50 (11:50 UK time) today for an 8 lap Heat Race 1, then that’s it for the day!

Really looking forward to try and get a big start down the historic start finish straight and see what we can do from there…

We’re not the best at doing write ups after a round, busy work and lives get in the way, not helped by the post race weekend blues! But Round 7 of the BMW F900R Cup at Donington Park over the weekend was our best weekend since we’ve started and it made a quick post and a shout out to all those that help us a must.

The goal for us since 2023 was a podium in the LCQ - when we first started the level was clearly high (and it’s only got better too) and Jim took a while to adapt and build confidence in the bike, so that seemed like a tough but realistic challenge. And one that we can now proudly say we’ve achieved!

Jim started out pretty strong in FP1, built on it in Qualifying and then tried hard to come out swinging in the races. After being fast but soft at Thruxton the lesson needed to be learnt, give an inch and a mile will be taken! That was a missed opportunity and Jim didn’t want to repeat that. His usual rocket starts helped this weekend too… especially when starting from the back of the grid in the heat race after missing the pitlane cutoff!

FP1: P24, 1:43.0
Qualifying: P31, 1:42.2
Heat race: P16, 1:42.6
LCQ: P3 šŸ„³šŸ„‰, 1:42.3
Main race: P27, 1:42.4

Jim’s ideal time over the weekend was a 1:41.5 but he didn’t find the consistency to put that together, and he will work on keeping the focus on the lap times, then the results will look after themselves…

So much to take away from this weekend for us. Great battles with Alex Vella, Harry Gower, Paul Barker, Ben Rybicki and the rest of the lads in and around our group and Jim felt that he fought better than he had done in a long while. And the little trophy and Pirelli cap topped it all off. As a little bonus, we’re also leading the R&G Challenger Cup championship! šŸ¤ž

It has been a long time coming to achieve our small team’s goal, so we’re all absolutely buzzing about it. But there are a lot of people who’ve helped along the way, from cheering on (always makes a difference!), moral and financial support, right through to countless hours of working on the bikes. It can’t be done without you - thank you ā˜ŗļø

Big news from OWR Racing from Round 7 of the BMW F900R Cup at Donington Park 😬

We’ve only gone and got a podium in the Last Chance Qualifier!!! 🄳 It was a big fight through to 3rd place, battling all the way through, lots of rubbing and some, erm, creative lines…

This has been a long time coming for us and has been our target since we started at the beginning of 2023. We are all over the moon with the result! It also puts us in the lead of the R&G Challenger Cup championship, with 2 races left…

If you want to see racing where everyone is riding like it’s the last lap every lap, then the LCQ is the hidden gem of the BSB weekend šŸ’Ŗ. Well done Jim!!

šŸ“ø

Thank you as always to those that make it possible and support the team in what ever way possible…

Round 6 of the BMW is at the legendary in Lincolnshire! Always a fan favourite and generally a rider favourite but Jim has never fully gelled with the track, so we’ve done 3 track days here this year to try and break that. We’ll see what results that brings…

Today we’ve completed Free Practice and Qualifying. Jim was as stiff as a board in FP1, finishing P30 on a 1:43.3. Totally knackered after that, we filled Jim up with some food, coffee and magic glucose tablets (courtesy of Pascale, thanks!!) and sent him out for Qually feeling a bit sharper. Although the result was P31, it was 1.9 seconds faster at a 1:41.4, which is Jim’s PB round Cadwell on the F900.

We’re in Heat Race 1 tomorrow at 14:50, and then the LCQ at 17:55 - back on the afternoon shift again! Fingers crossed for some more decent pace tomorrow. The goal is a sub 1:40 lap time…

Round 5 of the BMW F900R Cup is at the ferociously fast and abrasive Thruxton in the deep deep south of England!

Will do a proper write up but so far it’s been a positive and solid weekend, and Jim has taken 1.4seconds out of his previous best when setting the fastest lap of the LCQ on his way to a PB of 5th.

We’re lining up at 14:00 today in P31 for the main race, looking to round out a good weekend with some decent speed and a strong result. Elbows out!

BMW F900R round 4 day 2…

Continuing with the afternoon shifts, we went out in heat race 1 at 13:30, starting P18 and finishing P16 after a cracking battle with Pete Hasler returning on the AOR bike. Jim knew he had the legs on him so just attacked back as soon as he went past but he just beat us to the line in the end. Dropped the lap time to a 1:40.3 so that was another improvement.

Started the LCQ P6, and Jim got a trademark flying start, slotting into 2nd, behind Hasler. Hasler had to serve a double long lap penalty and in doing so promoted Jim to 1st!! Not a common occurrence for us and Jim felt he fluffed the next couple of laps thinking too hard, dropping a couple of positions. James Cleary came steaming through from the back of the grid (as expected!) and then Jim was in the fight for 4th, crossing the line 0.035 behind P5 finishing P6, and fuming as he’d missed out on 100quid prize money by 0.035 of a second! Lap time dropped to a 1:40.0, so so close to the sub 1:40!

Mixed feelings after that for Jim as he was frustrated that he’d made so many mistakes, but still some mega steps forward.

And we’re joint 2nd in the R&G Challenger Cup now too! Didn’t see that coming.

Main race is at 12:55 tomorrow where we line up P32 on the grid…

We’re at the famous Brands Hatch for round 4 of the BMW right down south, basically in France šŸ‡«šŸ‡·

The weather held up for us and it ended up being red hot all day, if not quite as savage as Snetterton and Donington 🄵

The morning brought Free Practice, P32 out of 47 and a PB of 1:41.0, beating Jim’s previous best by 0.9.

Qualifying was out on the afternoon shift, finishing P34 (thanks to a DQ further up the grid 😬) doing a virtually identical time to earlier

A bit frustrating for Jim to not improve but he felt he was just trying too hard and that is never fast. More in the tank we think - that sub 1:40 is in there somewhere…

Next out in Heat Race 1 at 13:30 tomorrow (Saturday) starting P18. Assuming we’re in the LCQ then that’s on night shift at 18:00…

We’ll be trying!
