Hi folks!

I figured this page was due an update, and rather than endure watching my team lose on Match Of The Day, here it is…

I’m working full time now, in a job and career that I love. It takes me to exotic places such as northern Germany and Stoke, but it’s proved occasionally to be a difficult balance to strike with home life and this business.

I AM still doing bike bits, but understandably I’m having to be selective as to when I take things on. Primarily this is because I hate having your bikes hanging around unfinished, and with parts supply still a little sporadic sometimes I’ve had to keep things longer than I wanted and I feel that’s poor customer service.

So please yes do drop me a message, but be prepared for me to possibly say no or give you a long lead time sometimes if I have to.

As always, advice costs nothing and my kettle is always ready, so you are all welcome to pop by or call for a chat about anything bike-y… or anything else that an ageing idiot like me can provide advice on.

Peace and love 🧡

Hi folks.

I’ve been doing some thinking about my little bike business, and although it’s not easy to say - I think I may have to step back from bikes for a while.

My career is important to me, and while I want to please everyone and do my very best on your bikes in my spare time, I am in danger of promising more than I can deliver. The last thing I want to do is let someone down or forget I’ve offered to help; I feel it keenly when I don’t meet people’s expectations and I can’t let that continue.

So, for the summer months at least, I am going to start saying ‘no’ to a lot of bike work. I’m so busy with family/ work/ quarantine and travel that I just can’t commit.

Please DO message or call me - I will always try to help if possible.

My friend and colleague Kean Truelock at KT's Bike Shed in Canterbury will also try to accommodate you - he’s super helpful and learned most of what he knows from me (don’t let him tell you otherwise).

I’m sorry but also - I’m not. I’m glad that I can take this as a positive step knowing that you guys will understand my reasons because you’re such a wonderful and supportive group of humans.

Much love 🤘🧡

Three years!

It’s not unreasonable to say that this was a day that changed our lives. It was the beginning of a rocky, razorblade ridden, molehill infested downhill-on-your-arse period for us and one which came close to killing us.

But it didn’t.

What we saw on the way down (and back up) was the unexpected love and support of our friends, my customers and people in general. What we saw was humanity at its best, doing something for nothing and either paying it forward or returning a previously-done favour.

Three years on and we are different people mentally, financially and physically. Bikes no longer rule my life - they can’t, I’m a sensible grown up now - but if I see any of my friends in need then I’m damn sure I do my bit to help.

Yes I’m a soppy liberal ginger whatever, but I don’t care. I’m grateful to everyone who messaged, called, came round or even just smiled and told me it would be ok. I didn’t believe you then, but you were right and I thank you for that.

Be kind. It matters. 🧡

*SOLD*

1998 Peugeot Festina Team Replica road bike size 54 - will suit anyone 5’8” upwards.

From the golden age of [doping] cycling!!

This is a genuine 1998 example in original condition, but fully restored by me. A really nice example of a thoroughly useable but increasingly rare bike.

The Festina Tour de France team were involved in a huge doping scandal in 1998, ending in numerous arrests and bans. While it’s not a glorious history, it makes for an interesting back story to this bike.

The bike itself retains all the original components, a full Campagnolo Mirage 9-speed groupset, Miche wheels and ITM finishing kit.

It has been rebuilt with new cables, tyres, headset bearings, bar tape and chain. It rides perfectly and is in excellent mechanical order. The only negative is that the original team saddle has a rip in it - but I have left it on as it is period. I will happily discuss replacing it with a potential buyer. There are a few blemishes on the frame but honestly it’s in really nice condition.

New chain
New cables
New bar tape
New headset
New tyres

Not sure how to price it so I’m going to say £200 ono. Pretty good for a retro TDF replica team bike!

*SOLD*

1979 Peugeot Competition road bike, completely restored and rebuilt from scratch. Size 55cm - will suit 5’8” upwards.

I bought this bike as a lockdown project, and although it was VERY tired it was also very original. I stripped every part and hand polished them, restoring anything from the original bike I could keep. Wherever possible this bike has the original parts on.

The frame was sound but the paint was poor, so I had it stripped and powder coated in a nice French Blue - Peugeot offered a similar colour on the bike in 1979. I sourced all new decals including the French Reynolds tubing frame sticker and fitted them all as per the original.

The bike has Peugeot branded Simplex derailleurs, shifters and crankset, Peugeot branded Mafac brakes and Maillard wheels. Currently I am rebuilding the original Simplex rear mech, so it has a period Suntour SVX mech. I will happily fit the Peugeot one if it is serviceable.

Wheels are the original hubs and rims, with new bearings and the original 6-speed Maillard freewheel. Chain is KMC.

Both the seat and seatpost were damaged and I have fitted modern alternatives, mainly for convenience and safety.

Stem is original Peugeot Atax and the bars were on the bike but are Raleigh. Brake levers are NOS Mafac drilled and the bar tape is new.

New cartridge bottom bracket
New headset bearings
New bar tape
New brake pads
New cables
New saddle
New seatpost
New Michelin Classic tyres
New tubes and rim tape
New wheel bearings
New chain

Perfect for retro/ classic L’Eroica events or perfectly useable as a bike. Rides beautifully and not heavy at under 10kg!

Basically a thoroughly original 1970s road bike in great condition and fully rebuilt.

No idea what to ask for this! So I’m looking for offers in the region of £375.

Morning lovely people! It’s been a while hasn’t it?

Well, the days are getting longer, there is hope on the horizon and the weather is improving... which can mean only one thing.... more cycling!!

I’ve been beavering away in the dark and cold evenings, keeping up with the amount of work you all bring me. However I have a sneaky feeling that it’s about to get busier. Races are back, group rides are back, outdoors is back!

So, in brief: please bear with me if there is a little wait to get your bike done. I’m busy (which is good) but I have a job (which I love) and a family (errr yeah them too) to juggle. It’s important to me to help as many people as possible but the moment it looks like getting in the way of my family or my career I will slow down.

Wait times may vary but you KNOW I will ALWAYS do my best for you.

I’ve missed seeing you people and chatting to you all, and I can’t wait to see you as you head out. There’s a good few of you I owe a beer or a cuddle to. Can’t hardly wait.

Stay in touch, ride safe, be kind.

‘Tis all. Peace 🧡✌️

Merry Christmas to everyone, near and far, from Goldy’s. 2020 has been very different - unthinkably hard for many and stressful for all. So here’s hoping 2021 is better for everyone, and your cycling is able to get back to being social, friendly and (above all) enjoyable.

Merry Christmas, thank you for continuing to support us, we love you all.

(Yes we are open over the festive period for emergency repairs).

Peace 🧡
