10th October... World mental health day π
One day isn't enough, we should be spot lighting the effects of poor mental health everyday, because it's everyday that people live in crisis and chaos that they can't escape with no help to be offered. Our health system do what they can but waiting lists are just too long for some people.
I myself have been part of the mental health system since I was a child, so I know first hand that there just isn't enough resources to cater for everyone.
I made a decision 15 years ago whilst sitting in hospital everyday for 17 days, that I needed to do more, I needed to find something in me to fight everyday to not rely on strong mood stabilisers and the NHS.
I started with light exercise, and small nutritional changes until I then decided to train to be a personal trainer thinking If I can do this for myself then I can definitely help others.
15 years on and I am still medication free. I am not cured but I am still here fighting and functioning.
This morning I showed up again, met my coach and smashed out 18 x 1.5minute rounds of Muay Thai. This is my medication, this is my therapy and for this I am thankful π
For anyone out there thinking or feeling that there is no hope, that you feel trapped in your own head then please believe me when I say things can and will get better. You can make a difference, you can overcome a temporary feeling or thought and you can let your light shine again.
